I din't think this belonged in punk cause Green Day arne't really punk anymore.
American Idiot is a masterpeice. I think it's the "The Wall" or "Sergaent Pepper" of pseudo punk rock. The way the tracks all flow into eachother and keep a recurring theme, really resembles Dark Side to me, just a lot less musically complex, and about 30 years later. And songs on this album relfect my feelings about Bush and his stupid religious following that wants to kill every innocent middle eastern in the world. The lyrics are very good.

green days old cds were much better, but i just dont like them over all. i thought american idiot was more of a money making plot than a good cd. it sounds just like a lot of those other wannabe punk bands

You're absolutely right, American Idiot is like Dark Side of the Moon...

Nevermind - Nirvana is a masterpiece in the world of music. It ushered in the grunge era which some bands are still around. It's definately in the top albums of all time. It's a damn shame Kurt is gone.

    Musically different, then yes.

In terms of Albums that Define a generation? Maybe.

It is very arguable that Dookie is completely representative of late 90s stoners.

Hey man, I actually think Nirvana's "Nevermind" is one of the most overrated albums of the 90s. But it's good and believe it or not it's stock is dropping every year and some people are starting to say "In Utero" was an all around better record. Perhaps on MTV Nevermind might be hailed as the greatest record of the 90s or one the top albums of all-time in Rolling Stone magazine, but in reality man, people don't want to ever talk about that underground scene in the 80s that influenced Nirvana heavily you know. MTV wanted to kill the hair band era and start fresh with something new and Nirvana was the obvious choice to kickstart the 90s but MTV never wants to tell us about what happened before Nirvana. In the 80s their were bands like Sonic Youth, Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr., Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, and Jesus and Mary Chain that made some of the most influential records in the last 30 years of music and Nevermind kinda gathers up a little bit of each and it's always frustrating because people have never heard of these bands that Nirvana practically stold their sounds from. So when I think of the great records of the 90s i think of Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" or My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" which featured some of the most revolutionary guitar work since Jimi Hendrix. But Nevermind's influence in mainstream rock cannot be denied and a band like Green Day would've never had made it if it wasn't for Nirvana, and practically every other grunge and post grunge band in the 90s.

    Well said...

Nirvana did alot for the music industry. It's true alot of bands before of similar genre were lesser known but that happens all the time. You know alot of people mention The Doors, Airplane, The Dead as some of the greatest Cali bands. Nobody hardly knows about great bands such as Love and Spirit...It's just how the ball bounces i guess. I think alot of bands haven't got the recognition they rightfully deserve.

man green day suck. there should be no arguement. their first few albums were passable, but now their complete sell outs. their lyrics talk about being against the war and stuff, but as far as i can tell their only doing it for the money. i guess all bands get that image if theyve been conveying the same message for more than a few cds though...

    Really likeGreen Day,

Can't say I've faulted any of their albums with Nimrod being the best IMO. American Idiot was a fantastic album which brought about a change in the punk scene.

Tells a story and not many bands nowdays can do that in an album.

I've only listened to 4 or 5 Greenday songs and I'll go as far as to say they are a good band, albeit by today's standards. But to compare Greenday and 'American Idiot' with Pink Floyd and 'Dark Side Of The Moon' is nothing short of sacrilegous. And about Nirvana, I personally don't think Nevermind was their best album. In my opinion, that would be MTV Unplugged in New York. The pain and emotion in Kurt's voice (especially in songs like Where Did You Sleep Last Night?) merged so perfectly with the acoustic guitars... great stuff
