I'd hate to quote that movie, but in reality, its true. I would just like to point out to all of you "hippies"(Im really speaking to those of you who are economically informed somewhat, not the 14 year olds) that while you claim Capitalism is the evil of the world and we all need to get rid of currency, really, free trade is the best thing to happen to us. While in some cases, multi billion dollar firms are extremely corrupt and not looking out for the good of mankind (example the movie who killed the electric car), they have in fack made the parts of the world involved in capitalism richer. While granted, much of the world is still living in poverty, as a percentage humans are living better than ever thanks to capitalism and international trade and the end of tarrifs and things of that sort. As a former red, i would of never thought i would be saying these things. But in all honesty, we live like kings compared to people 100 years ago. All thanks to Capitalism. Those countries wrapped in poverty are usually under a state of war or anarchy (Somalia, Uganda, Sudan, Palestine) or under government oppression (North Korea, Cuba). My point is, as far as I know, (im sure some of you out there are smarter than me so feel free to enlighten me) Every country that has impliemented a Capitalistic system is flurashing (see if you can spell the word i was trying to use your smarter than me) and all this talk of socialism is truely bad for the economy and the nation. Any thoughts?
I wouldn't want to live in anything but a (our) Capitalist society. And most of the people on this site who say otherwise probably couldn't survive in anything else. Especially the Americans.
China is flourishing.... A lot of countries in Eastern Europe that recently abolished comunism are in bad shape. I mean obviously capitalism/greed drives inovation and improvement. It certainly is what made America great. But, it is only made nescesary because people suck so much. We do need to abolish currency, but by "we" I mean absolutely everyone in a huge unanimous decision. But until that happens, capitalism is the best we got.
On whose statistics are you basing these "flourishing" statistics? And Palestine remains what it is because Israel continues to inflict death and conflict on the area. Capitalism can exist, but it should exist in a legislated controlled manner, because raging capitalists cause most of the crime in the world when not controlled. They always want more, and they don't care who they roll over.
Alister Cooke once pointed out when some anarchists were protesting at the removal of trade barriers, that trade barriers are a form of human repression.
Alistair Cooke was a tv celebrity. I enjoyed watching him introduce Masterpiece Theatre, but I never thought to let him control the way my world behaved. Or you mean Alister Cooke the Jamaican businessman? Maybe you should provide a link to this erudite person, we should all follow.
"Greed is good." OK, but greed is not the only good thing. Our desire for more is a dangerous tool. Like a table saw, it should be used cautiously and not in all cases.
I meant the first one who did Letter from America radio program for the BBC over several decades. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/letter_from_america/default.stm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alistair_Cooke
No, its good for the economy, and great for the nation. http://www.marxist.com/usa-statistics-shock240506-2.htm Read this article. Capitalism is going downhill and it hasn't benefitted the majority of people in the United States and other counties since the 1950s and 1960s. The ruling class keeps squeezing more and more until they get every last drop of blood. If you were a "red", you weren't a very well read one were you? While Capitalism when it first emerges is usually progressive for society, all it does now is hinder human progress with its greed. We can't achieve our full potential as a society under capitalism.
For all the people who want to remove currency. First of all - as someone posted above - everyone on earth would have to give up currency more or less at the same time for it to work. Just how you expect to acheive that, im not sure. And if you did somehow managed to acheive it. How would people trade with each other effectively? Yes you could barter with goods. But what happens if I only have access to goods that are in low demand?
I think you forget that the original driving force behin capitalism was an effort to glorify God by engaging in competitive commerce. Protestant individual work ethic honors God by creation of wealth. Greed only recently, in the last century became a motivating factor as God was erased from the capitalist's mind.
In practice monopoly capitalism and marxist communism lead to a centralization and concentration of capital.
Greed=low position on evolutionary path=90% earths human problems.10%=religion.You see it or you don't.----------(think altruism)
when you say religion, you should aslo include any destructive extreme ideology which falls within under the scope of "religion". Nazism and communism have killed many more than any other "religion".
Capitalism seeks what is profitable not what is good, and what is profitable sometimes is very harmful and leads to long term consequences. Instead of curing people, we medicate people so they can continue to consume and generate money. Useless waste in the name of profits.
