Yep, wash less. I know its difficult to go through that period when it gets worse, but once you get through that bit it'll get better! The less you wash your hair the less oils your scalp will produce. Its all about training the scalp.
If you don't want to use Bronners or something, I'd say buy two different shampoos and switch every 2 or 3 washes. There's a shampoo called Aussie (perhaps you know it...) which is fantastic for non-dreaded hair but only if you use another shampoo every few washes. I guess it leaves ALOT of residue behind, and it actually makes your hair greasy if you use it too often.
how much length are you dealing with? I'm assuming the shampoo you are using is sls based (sodium Laureth sulfate/ite), and that is detergent, not soap. Someone said ditch the conditioner, and for dreads, yeah, but you said you were dreadless. So, are you training your scalp again? Planning on starting new dreads within three months? if you are waiting a bit, ditch the 'poo. use the conditioner like 'poo, as in on the scalp, massage well, rinse then condition normally (some use the same condish, some use a lighter one) and the sebum production should chill out. You can also look to using soap. pop over to Flowing Tresses (my forum on here) and read the threads on that. It'll save me a bunch of typing. link in my sig.
The more you wash your hair, the oils you will strip causing your hair to produce more oil to replace what has been washed away. It's a hard habit to break as it's something most people do their whole lives. I would get a completely natural based soap if you don't like Bronners get something similar. Get something with some essential oils. Tea Tree Oil reduced oil productions along with Rosemary and Thyme. If you can't do it all at once, start my weaning yourself off the habit. Wash every other day with the new soap, whatever you choose. Then after the first week, go every third day. Continue to do this until you are only washing once a week. But in reality if you really want to fix this, then are going to have to address the problem itself and that is over washing. I use to have the most oily greasy hair before I dreaded mine. If I didn't wash everyday it was nasty. After about 3 months of washing once a week I no longer have oily hair. But also be aware conventional shampoo and conditioner will only make your problem worse. It leaves your hair dirty with nasty residue and never truly clean hair. Not mention the shit just smell bad. I hope this help.
shoulder length,, but with some sort of dodgy fringe goin on yeah im training my scalp i suppose.. i intend to backcomb, so obv i dont want grease to un knot the knots,, planning on doin it in the new year and i shall try just using conditioner and see how it goes =] fankyoo
i have tea tree oil upstairs, how would i use that? instead of buying a new lot of tea tree hair stuff i mean
My advice: Use straight baking soda. ...and stop washing so much. You are training your body to produce more [oil] by washing your hair and scalp with those crappy products doled out to you by corporations. Baking soda will control the immediate problem of grease (SEE ALSO: Chemistry 101). Then by washing it less frequently, you will train your body to chill out on oil production. I started by washing every day with baking soda, then went to every other day. After a few weeks of that switch it to every 4th day, after a while, go once a week, and so forth. This will be different based on your body type, and how much physical activity you engage in. Good luck!
this was my original question!! do i use baking soda, what do i use with it,, as in, i have neat tea tree oil, should i put some of that in the mix, should i get some thyme oil for it..
