Those living in UK, who may have new ideas about energy saving, will be interested to know that Powergen are currently offering awards and assistance for the best new ideas that can be developed for general use.

This is surely a step in the right direction by the power supply companies and hopefully others will join in supporting such activities for the long term benefit of our planet... (For those who would like to take advantage of this award; you can get further information from powergen-energylab.co.uk, dedicated only to this subject)

That sounds really cool! Anyone got any energy saving ideas I can steal?

    Hi bigOz,

    How have you been?

I know I am leaving it a little late but I really want to enter the competition. I was just wondering if you...or anyone else out there, knew what I should do in terms of a patent on my ideas? I do not want Powergen to steal it and leave me out in the cold. I have taken a look around the net but a lot of the advice is confusing & contradicting.

    Please help!

Doing a patent search and patenting an idea is an expensive exercise. However you can disclose to Powergen Energy Labs what your idea is for and what it will do, as well as if you have a working prototype, without disclosing the patentable full working details of the idea. At a later stage, if your idea is welcome, you can ask them to sign a confidentiality agreement and/or make an offer of patenting / producing it as a joint venture.

I do not have the URL off hand but if you do a search for "UK patent office" I am sure you'll find more about patent applications and procedures.
