Is anyone here either in grad school or going thru the application process? I'm in the process of applying for a PhD program in Anthropology at UC San Diego University of Virginia Washington University Boston University A friend of mine, who actually just defended his disertation, commented that going thru the application process is as much work as taking another upper-level course. I can't wait to get them all in, so I don't have to worry anymore!
good luck with that process...someday, i'll probably be going through it for economics - well thats the way it looks now, but that could change.
going through the whole law school thing right now - i sent in my applications in the beginning of october and now i have the WAITING PERIOD which is horrifying. i've applied to george washington, emory, university of virginia, vanderbilt, and washington and lee. i'm going to study environmental law, and gw, emory, and uva are my best bets for that.. gw is my first choice. i'm on pins and needles man, pins and needles. good luck with your applicating and waiting !
I'm in grad school now for the second time. The application process is not fun, especially for me I hated getting the letters of recommendation. That was really hard the second time after I'd been out of school for a few years. If you can secure those, then the rest is gravy. Unless you have to write an essay or letter of intent. Those suck too. Btw, those are all excellent schools (although I have no idea what's good in anthropology). One suggestion I have is to apply to at least one school that you know will accept you, your safety school. That may already be on your list. Good luck.
Thanks for the well wishes & good luck SuperNova! Those were easy for me because this is a really small department, so I've had a chance to get to know several profs pretty well. It's all those essays that are killing me! Yeah, I've already emailed a couple of the people I want to work with at UCSD & got really enthusiastic responses, so I'm pretty sure I'll get in there... The question is whether I can afford to live out there! I have a really specific idea of what I want to do, tho, so I had a really hard time just finding schools to apply to -- if they don't have anyone I want to work with, it's not really worth going there. If I don't get in & get funded this year, I'll just take a year off to work on my CV...
It sounds like you've done your research and really know what you want to do in grad school. I bet you'll be really good at it and be successful wherever you end up going. Which school are you hoping to go to? Is Washington U. the one in St. Louis?
UCSD is my first choice, because they have 2 people who I really want to work with & both have been really friendly in emails. UVA is second because they have someone who does what I want to do in the region I want to work in... I emailed him but got no response, so I don't even know if he got the email... Wash U (yes, the one in St. Louis) is third because 1. if you're in you're funded (really well I might add), 2. it's only 2 hours away from my boyfriend, 3. they have someone who kinda does what I want to do in the country I want to work in, tho his response to my email was not especially exciting. Which leaves Boston U in last place, because I needed to apply to at least 1 more school.... And they do have someone who may be a good fit, tho he doesn't really excite me yet... Probably more info than anyone cares about, but I'm procrastinating on a paper!
Hey, supernova.. If you go to Washington and Lee let me know, I work right off campus at a coffeeshop
