World’s fastest AI supercomputer could be 30x more powerful than Frontier (msn.com) This is a perfect example of the current insanity surrounding AI. One of the reasons for the insanity, is that the computers can always be disassembled, and sold as parts, thanks to the demand far outstripping the supply. Our current graphics cards should cost a third of what they do, while the entire industry is set up to sell parts in this fashion, and its similar to buying diamonds, which are only rare because they warehouse them. The reason I post it here, is because this is an example of WWIII invading the marketplace. Although they might even come with processing cores, these machines use a ridiculous amount of memory, and are basically cutting edge graphics cards, designed for crunching the big numbers, with a single one of these new AMD packages being more than enough to run the Star Trek holodeck, yet they're talking about building a computer with a million of them, because everyone is rushing to patent and copyright even the laws of nature. All of this, when Intel is already making quantum computer chips, optical interconnects, etc. The implication is that Intel and everyone else has been doling out the technology as slowly as possible, but the shit is hitting the fan, and WWIII is about to change everything. Basically, if you're twenty years ahead of the competition, this is good, and its time to play the markets, because Putin and Xi are the competition right now, and size does matter.
