LOL I find it to be an amusing song. It was aimed mostly at those joining, "groups" who really have no interest in it other than the superficiality of the clothing and look.
Um...just to speak for my folks... You might want to actually GO to a club before drawing any false conslusions. It's unfortunate that everyone thinks Goths are all about death and things superficial, period. And I DO wear sandals!
i don't know why goths were so into death and at the same time peter murphy and the cure. now the marilyn manson crew. what the hell? that music is so dancy, it always made me happy. i just didn't have the energy to go out and buy the uniform, and i loved swimming, so i had a tan. *sigh* i've never been one to commit.
The song was actually written by a goth band. That is why it's so great. It is a parody on people who try hard to be considered gothic. Actually... I am speaking for your folks, since I have been labeled one since...oh, forever?
I love goths, but sometimes they get a weebit cliquish. Back in my home town, it was funny to watch the yunguns get all hard core and ultra goth, then mellow into really cool people that happen to be goth. we'd laugh at em for a few years then buy em a beer when they matured past image is everything. HOWEVER in my experience with LA goth clubs, they are all snobs and if they havent seen you at all the the clubs for a long tiome you arent cool enough to talk to.
