as a kid I had several misfortunes one of which being in a Jehova's witnesses' family. I remember distinctly all the bullshit I have passed through and one was that Gorby's trademark head spot was no less that the Sign of the Beast. They expected him to bring about the Armageddon. Gorbachev could see that communism was failing and tried to save the USSR by introducing certain features of capitalism and democracy into the system, but it opened a floodgate and the people were ready to overthrow communism altogether. Soviet hardliners tried to stop it by deposing him, but it only made the situation explode and it brought an end to the Soviet Union. Apparently China learned from this and incorporated capitalism into their system much more gradually, but the result is not true communism, however much the Chinese claim it still is. The lesson learned is that communism simply doesn't work.
