Me! I feel that I, as an eccentric wannabe journalist, should learn as much about other eccentric journalists as I can. As it is, I don't know much about Hunter S. Thompson.
seen so many documentaries and snippets as well as reading a hell of a lot of his material and stuff written about him, on top of interviews with his close friends like johnny depp and ralph steadman, as well as the making of fear and loathing in vegas which had his actual appearance in the film well covered and can safely say as a fellow gonzoid i will definitely be adding this gemstone to the list.
I just rented this the other night. Pretty good. I didn't really learn anything new about him but the recollections of his friends, family and associates are good. Also some footage of him that I hadn't seen before.
I don't like the way they tried (in my opinion) to glorify his suicide as some kind of noble ending to his life. Other than that it was a pretty decent flick.
like i just said.. parts 1-6 on youtube now. watch while you can - although you've probably missed it now. should of watched when you checked this page last night. god dammit.
this is not a movie. this is a documentary of hunter's life and style - information on the founding of gonzo; interviews with hunter's friends and family - anita his wife, ralph steadman, johnny depp, and others - and many clips of hunter at his best in interviews, or fly on the wall clips. there's a lot of coverage on his time in 'the hell's angels' and athough it remains unnannounced, if you haven't got shit for brains you'll be able to piece together the real reasons hunter's journalist style went the way it did.
