Ok, so ive decided to go with the natural journey (neglect) for growing dreads. My hair is around 5" on average, very thick and slightly wavy, so im planning to just start the neglect process while im growing it out, instead of growing it long and then starting to neglect, i really dont think it can hurt doing it this way, at worst itl be starting to knot up in 6 months instead of me just starting the neglect method in 6 months with long "burshed" hair. My question for neglect, is how "neglectfull" should I be. After washing, should i dry it to damp and leave it to dry on its own, or dry it as mush as possible with a towel? And does it hurt if my hair naturally falls into a middle parted style? Or should i force it into a more messy non parted style (or is this considered not neglecting and counter productive??). I suppose im just lost as to how just not brushing my hair and washing with a certain soap is going to force it to start locking by itself. Jeroth PS: Sorry for starting another thread, but now that ive decided on the method im going with I thought a dedicate thread was necessary.
hey man its cool. id say wash it every like week-2 weeks then eventually less. maybe use residue free soap etc. would help if you live near a beach to go swimming in the sea alot (iv had dreads 6 months and went to beach other day for first time iv had dread and it done them a world of good). also the middle parting is fine dude my dreads are in a middle parting...i may have backcombed tyhem but it doesnt matter just howver you want them man. im sure your dreads will turn out fine man good luck! hope iv helped atleast a bit
Wash once a week??? Ive always washed my hair daily, I thought not washing was counter productive?! Correct me if im wrong but I was always under the impression that washing shouldnt change?
i wash every 3 days. people have different routines for washing, and i think we will never really find out if it is a "best way". jeroth, the thing is as u wash less often ur scalp produce less oils. find what is best for you
exactly maereo. if you start washing every 3 days your hair will produce less oils after a while until u only need 2 wash every week- 2 weeks. i used 2 wash my dreads every day but now stick to once a week-2 weeks. gd luck anyway dude
i started this way but i was too impaient. good luck with yours!!! my friends on her way over right now to help me tighten them a little
once a week is about right for washing, and you absolutly should use a residue free soap like bronners a dip in the sea, or just a salt water rince will help, but be sure to rince it out after..and u should start seeing results in several weeks not 6 months, although it will take much longer to really become tight mature dreads
Ok awesome thanks! Wow, several weeks, thats good to hear. As long as i start seeing some results along the way, im happy to wait as long as it takes. I got myself some residue free soap tonight, did wash with that, and also rinced with sea water and washed it out like oyu advised. I live in perth, western australia so ill make a point of hitting the beach instead. Ill let u guys knwo hwo it goes!
