Here in Portland Oregon we're going back into lockdown for four weeks, starting Wednesday. It's not as restrictive as the last lockdown, I can still get my hair cut, but bars and restaurants will be takeout only, and gyms and museums will be closed once again. It's still a drag, I won't be able to sit and drink in my local pub and watch football on Sunday. How are the rest of you holding up?
My minimalist lifestyle allows me to live well under lockdown conditions. (no lockdowns yet) My haircut lady is my supervisor at my essential work, she just cuts my hair there. My stockpile of beer/edibles are at home. I do my boxing downstairs in the basement gym Jump rope outside or in livingroom I go grocery shopping right when they open. It's usually just me along with a few Ty's pushing the cart around. Some Ty's are in the scooters. My ladies come to my home for attention and dancing. *But for now, under no lockdown....... I still enjoy my freedom wearing a mask in public.
I'm fairly introverted myself but I also like to get out sometimes and socialize a little. For the next four weeks my options will be limited. Guess I'll be making more trips to the liquor store.
Lockdown wouldn't bother me as I never go out and have all my groceries delivered. No lockdown here though. If I could switch places with someone hurt by this, I would.
Not true Dude... they prevent the spread of disease. Are we going to have a problem with you spreading disinformation here?
First day of the new lockdown and it's raining outside. So I'll be spending the day eating, drinking, getting stoned and watching TV. And of course posting on HipForums.
Typical day in Oregon! Land of fine weed and endless rains. But without the rain nothing would grow, right?
The lockdowns ARE necessary, since a small percentage or HEALTHY people need ICU ventilators and antibiotics in order to survive this particularly nasty first mutation into humans virus. The problem is that doctors are advising governments who do not fully understand the reasoning and this is causing a degree of over reaction. The fact that viruses are present in 95% of ALL deaths is causing alarming figures that frighten governments and the public alike. Here in the UK, our mortality rate for the first 10 months of 2020 is running 2.7% above average and 1.2% above typical virus epidemic years. However, without SOME degree of isolation, these figures would be higher and healthy people would be dying. Logistically it is a nightmare, so I do not blame governments for playing it safe, but they need a lot more education on the TRUE reasons for what they are doing. When this happens, the public will feel safer and cooperate. As you so rightly mentioned, the over reaction is causing huge damage to the economy.
Hopefully he will read my reply. A friend of ours was saved by ICU treatment last week and her descriptions of hallucinations made it very clear to me that her brain was starved of oxygen and starting to shut down. People simply need to understand that it is vital that thee units are not overwhelmed. Unfortunately, we constructed the Nightingale hospitals in the areas hit by the first wave, so they are now in the wrong geographical locations.
I can’t wait. They last time we had a lockdown, I was furloughed and laid off. I can’t wait to lose my job again. I only have a family of four to feed, so what’s the big deal? I mean, the last lockdown stopped it dead in its racks, right? Just wear a fucking mask. It might help. Or it might not. CDC and WHO keeps changing their minds. 70% of COVID patients have been wearing masks, so....I don’t know what to tell you.
Zuck, is that you? If they prevented the spread of the disease, we wouldn’t need to go through multiple lockdowns, now would we? CDC and WHO are now fearing that winter will cause a mass casualty event...because everybody will be trapped inside. I’m considered a first responder. I see everyday the damage lockdowns are causing. They need to be tempered. We can’t all live in fear. Life goes on. And so must the economy. I now suspect my “Alerts” bar will light up like a Christmas tree of panic and fear.
Illinois cases been so worser here so the governor here closing majority of everything he says its not a lockdown but might as well be i understand people not wearing they masks but i do feel bad anybody might be laid off again people does has bills to pay and a keep a roof over they head just a worse time for everybody
Since when did covid 19 get classified as a disease.??? At the moment it is simply a nasty flue virus that can result in a build-up of pathogenic bacteria in a small number of mainly seriously ill people. Take a look at my reply #10 on this thread.
COVID-19 is an acronym for Coronavirus Disease 2019. Call it virus if you want. They both work. I was replying to Zen. She called it a disease as well.
According to the Mayo Clinic, which I respect highly it is a disease caused by the virus. Read below for further info... you Brits may think differently. "Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that can cause illnesses such as the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). In 2019, a new coronavirus was identified as the cause of a disease outbreak that originated in China. The virus is now known as the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease it causes is called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. Public health groups, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and WHO, are monitoring the pandemic and posting updates on their websites. These groups have also issued recommendations for preventing and treating the illness."
