Looks like I'm going to be enrolling in Bartending school Anyone ever been? Kind of excited, should be fun!
so you've actually been to a bartending school, then? I could argue that an actual university is a royal waste of time and money but hey, whatta ya gonna do?
I've been to both a bartending school and an actual university . I've worked in the food industry for the past several years (to pay for real university, ha) and have come to notice that most bartenders get hired never going to bartending school. They are either servers/barbacks who get promoted or get hired on a whim. My employer didn't even know I went to bartending school when they asked me to tend the bar. I'll tell you though, when I did actually step behind the bar, my schooling helped me not at all. You learn on the job. My two cents anyway. Save yourself the money, 'tis a scam.
I think I'll enjoy the school and hopefully the certificate will come in handy. This school actually has job placement. I would imagine the school will give me atleast a sense of what it will be like to work behind a bar, which I would like before just being thrown into something..
Yes, they all have job placement (or most anyway). Mine did. I mean, if you think it will help go for it. Whatever gives you the false sense of security you need to jump behind the bar (as my boyfriend described bartending school). You might enjoy it if you are the social butterfly type--I am not. At all.
I've never really met a bartender that went to bartending school. They usually started as servers and worked their way up. not trying to be discouraging. It couldn't hurt.
I'm not going in with any expectations, just going to have fun with it. If they find me a job, cool. If not, I'm not gonna sweat it.
With the way things are going, next schools will be offering degrees in Unemployment Guidance with a minor in College Debt Management.
I think if your going for fun and to learn something thats great. But you're always saying how you're a loner and don't like being around a lot people, bartending is the exact opposite of that.
I wasn't referring to bartending. Just the dismal state of the economy in general and the exorbitant cost of education today.
Rainy, aren't you the one who was doing standup comedy? You could couple that expertise with bartending and make some sort of new business out of it.
That is what I said I'm going for, for fun. But if I do get a bartending job that would be great because I have been looking for a late night job/grave yard shift. I don't think bartending is the exact opposite of that. It's not like I'd be partying with the customers. I'd be behind the scenes. For work environments, I'm able to have a more *extroverted* demeanor because it's required. Plus, I like flirting. So I think I would do well as a bartender.. Yes. I'm familiar with some of the comedy clubs around so maybe I'll actually inquire about a bartending job at one of them..
