hi everyone, i just wanted to ask if anyone is a member of a GBLT group and know a little more about it. what does everyone talk about? what does everyone DO? how do you find them in conservative non gay friendly areas? thanks for you help! -franzde
Yes i've been a member of one for the last couple of years now. We have regular meets every week, sometimes just chatting about anything and having a laugh, other times discussing glbt topics. We go to gay pride events, and other activities. We also give support to younger members or people just coming out. As for finding them in your area, well in some places it may prove difficult. If you don't live in a gay-friendly place, the groups would be unlikely to advertise themselves so widely. If you know any other GLBT people, word of mouth is often the best way to find such groups.
I have just joined one recently,Unfortunately two groups were cancelled so I have'nt gone yet.The groups are mostly run by volunteers. It's real outta the way for me so I can't get there all the time (It's the closest 1 to me),but They do all sorts of things mostly revolving around the different glbt groups and their issues, they do things together as 1 group and seperately between groups,.I'm attending the bi group on the 13th.They get sponsorserd and sponsor a lotta different activities, informative lectures all sorts of things, they even go out to dinner lol,the glbt pride days they have, really there's so much.I hear the bi groups a little slow,I can't wait to go and give it some support! My first groups on the thirteenth. ..J*
i like to add a Q on the end of it because i'm special :H but basically... G - gay L - lesbian B - Bisexual T - transgender Q - queer :jester:
thanks guys, really appreciate this, so people separate into their groups of how they are sexually inclined? or do they all talk together or what?
I was in the gay liberation front back in the early seventies in Portland, Oregon and also belonged to several GLTB organizations in my more hip days. And I once was a member of a militant gay organization called the Pink Panthers that protected gays against gay bashing and kept the gay community safe. I was one of the few in the group that would physically fight the straights in hand to hand combat and often got into fights with straights, sometimes beating the tar out of them and sent many of them packing running after them up the street shouting "Come back here and fight like a man you sissies!" All of the fem men would ask me to escort them to their cars from the bars because they knew I was not afraid to fight. I am still not afraid to fight in spite of my age. And I was once married to a lesbian and the two of us fought the straights together. She was one hellva fighter too and could knock the holy sh-t out of the biggest baddest straights that ever walked the streets. We were a hellva pair and the two gay persons you did not want to tangle with if you crossed our paths or attacked one of our gay brothers or sisters back in those days (the early sixties.)
