So I scheduled myself to give blood this Wednesday. This is the first time I have given blood. I was pretty much coerced into it by an asshole, but I'm not doing it for him. He claims I'll be saving 3 lives. My question is... In reality what effect do I have by giving blood? Is it just barely another drop in a very large bucket?

Yep. You can save a few but you can't save them all. Welcome to life

I tried to give blood two times, once I was underweight so they wouldn't let me and then they rejected it because I'm anemic. So I guess I won't be saving any lives :(

If your gesture becomes an example that others follow then the effect will extend beyond whoever receives the pint you donated.

Of course doing anything can help you feel better about yourself and will make the person who convinced you to give feel self-satisfied thinking he coerced you into conforming to his grand gesture of charity and by doing so affirmed his own sense of self importance.

You just keep giving and giving...

They take 1 pint, the average body has between around 10-11 pints. You might feel a little lightheaded afterwords but the blood is replaced by your body within 24 hours I believe

I'm sure it won't be a drop in the bucket to the persons life you saved.

I understand I guess. My idea of a good day for you would be to donate a pint of blood and cook and eat a tarantula.

Haha fuk dat. I guess it is good to "face your fears" but I have faced alot of fears in my life thats how it is when you do a hardcore dose of salvia seriously the scariest thing.
Ne ways I not really scared of tarantulas anyways, just those small poisonous ones like black widows. They are all small and shit theres no way of knowing where the fuck they are at.

    donating blood is awesome

yea, they say it can save up to 3 lives
and like someone just said, i doubt it's just a drop in the bucket for that person's life that got saved :)

and i have to say freshdacre, with all the manly stuff about not crying, etc from the other thread... you sound like a PUSSY in here afraid of needles and spiders

not as in control as you think eh?

    no offense man

I found it. It's because blood is separated into three components. Platelets, Plasma, and red blood cells. I guess this makes sense. It may be a bit of an embellishment but I see where their going with it.

or you can do double red cell donations
    or just platelets

that shit feels weird to me though
i can deal with them taking blood out
but putting stuff back into my veins? that's where i start to get creeped
