Originally I just trimmed up, but started shaving for an ex (although I hate the sharp needle-y feel of the area just above my slit :/). But yeah, it can trap odors and it looks nicer in a swimsuit or panties in general.

 

Pubes purpose is to waft your odor and pheromones on to possible mates.

If you wash yourself I don't see the problem.

when i was a teenager i shaved all the time, and i think i started because i saw it in porn and thought it was expected and more acceptable than letting my hair grow.

i don't anymore because i find there are more reasons for me to keep it than to shave it i love having a bush and i don't think i'll ever go back to shaving it all off regularly

as far as hygiene goes.. if you take care of your body you will be fine.

I don't think hygiene was ever an issue- natural pussy is clean if you keep it that way. Although, having a bush and waking up to a tangled bloody mess if you've come on in the night isn't very nice. However, I've shaved as far back as I can remember. I picked up a razor pretty early, mainly because I was happy with it smooth and I didn't want/need hair there. There have been a couple of occasions where I've let it grow but I've never managed to go very long without shaving it, I like to keep it up. Smooth is sooo nice! I can't think back to the first time I did it to answer the masturbation part of the question but generally I've never frigged during. I don't find shaving my pussy sexy at all. But running a hand over it afterwards when it's freshly smooth is lovely.
