Girl Sacked from Job for Her Dreadlocks My dad showed this to me as I walked in today. Its right on the front page of my local free newspaper. Horrible and ridiculous. "appearance standards" my ass.
If I owned a place of business, I would have appearance standards too. Not to 'get down on their level' or anything, but if you had the typical short, neat, and clean-cut hair and your clothes were ironed and all that jazz... I'd hire you just so I could fire you for being of the mass produced type. I wouldn't want to you to confront my customers with the fake society-taught personality you've become accustomed to. I like real down-to-earth people... no matter where I go. Now I can't decide if this post (above) is meant to show that people stand up for what they believe in, or that corporate has every avenue of 'thinking outside the box' closed off.
I don't get how it's only a violation of human rights if the person is Rastafarian, surely that's discrimination in itself?
I have heard of this happening to other people. I would not want to work for a company anyways, who is more concerned about my hairstyle than the quality of work I do. That just shows these people are narrow-minded and not people I would respect or want to work for. And I think it is actually discrimination too. To some people it is just a hairstyle, but too others, it has religious or spiritual importance. If somebody doesn't like my dreads, then that means they don't like me, because that is who I am. Babylon always trying to bring us down, but we must rise above..
