    Anyone takes Ginseng?

I have been taking extracts for months now. nearly every day.

I was a big fan of caffeine for years but I had to stop because It kept giving me blood pressure problems. Ever since I started taking the ginseng these blood pressure problems are gone.
So I was able to start drinking coffee again. And its a fantastic combo with ginseng.

I picked up the extract in a mall. vitamin section. its very energizing but in a mellow way.

It decreases appetite and increases reaction time like any other stimulants.

it is non jittery, gives very clean feeling. (unlike coffee which I find to be a bit dirty.) I think it has consciousness expanding effect but very slightly.

Combining it with coffee is very pleasurable. Actually I have a fantastic time doing the combo. I could seriously go to a rave and dance all night on this stuff. I like the cleanness feeling of ginseng so much I prefer it over amphetamines for heavy physical work.

When I eat larger amounts I often get a feeling of warmness or I feel like Im floating. So its possible to get high on this stuff. But its not really something that can be abused.

In the last few days I have noticed that I have started to pop a lot more pills that I used to.. usually I took 1-2 and it felt like If I took more it would make me nauseous.
Now I can pop 4-5. so tolerance is building up.

Its also a fantastic immune system booster. I always get sick winter time but this year I didn't. And I have constant pain from old surgery wounds and ever since I started taking it the pain started to go away. And not because of painkiller effect. Its because its healing.

    So... I highly recommend Ginseng!!!!

    Peace!!

Seems to me like it could be abused and it also seems to me that in your case and your admittance, you're already abusing it.

But no I don't take it. I read it's contents on energy drinks. They hurt my tummy so I rarely drink them.

energy drinks are different. I take extract from plant. energy drinks feel very dirty for me and also give me that blood pressure drop that I experience when drinking coffee. While taking extract keeps my blood pressure where it has to be. not up or down. :)

No. I do not consider what I do abuse. It would be like.. saying that drinking tea every day is abuse.

But you've gone on to say that your doses are increasing. So you need to up your dose for desired effects = substance abuse in my books.

The ginseng in energy drinks is usually the panax variety, the lowest quality, and usually not enough to give much of an effect.

hmmm I had never looked much into ginseng before
it seems like it might have some benefits
I'm going to research it more and I might give it a try

I've been feeling pretty low on energy lately so maybe it might be helpful to me

Gen, I assume you are taking Panax Ginseng?

I have no experience with this, but I have been taking "Siberian Ginseng" lately, which is actually a misnomer, it's latin name is Eleutherococcus senticosus, so it's not "Ginseng" at all, it's actually Eleuthero. That's just something I want to put out there on the internets because its a huge misconception.

True panax ginseng does have some interesting effects but be careful because it can also have some worrying side effects, like increased bleeding.

Eleuthero has some interesting data on it showing that it may be an "adaptogen", something which non-specifically aids multiple biological systems in mammalian bodies . . . for example one study showed that people who regularly took Eleuthero and got sick with cold or flu had less severe symptoms that lasted a shorter amount of time compared to a control group. And eleuthero has very little side effects, it may increase BP slightly is all. It's also been shown in other studies to have as much of an anxiolytic effect as Xanax, go figure.

really interesting part of the plant kingdom that we are just starting to seriously study.

While we're on the topic, I've completely cut out table sugar from my diet by replacing it with Stevia leaf and Erythritol. Look those up if you want to really start getting healthy with your dietary inputs. I might start a big thread about those two some day. My local supermarkets are finally stocking 0 calorie sodas with no artificial sweeteners :) the stuff has antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-cavity, and pro-insulin activity . . . and is up to 300 times sweeter than sugar with no calories.

They sell little tiny bottles of ginseng in the bodegas around here. Never tried it, not sure if it's the pan ax variety or not, not sure of the dosage either in those bottles. Anxiolytic as effective as xanax, I have a hard time believing that, really?

the package says 1-2 tablets per day.

I was referring to Eleuthero, also known as "siberian ginseng", not true Ginseng. There are also many studies showing that xanax and other benzodiazepines are only as strong as placebo effect or sometimes even WEAKER, so actually the data around all this is very complicated.
