Yes, I posted on that thread. I met him in Bournemouth twice. Seen him a few times in his shows - Crazy man.
The space-needle is downtown Seattle, with perhaps 3 million people in the surrounding area. It is one of the largest port cities in the world if you count the cities north and south as well. It will never be NYC or Chesapeake Bay, which dwarfs them all, but its big enough by today's standards. NYC has 9 million people and you could walk all day in a straight line and never leave the city, while Tokyo has 33 million, and might as well be a different planet.
Seattle just got a contract with a major cruise line for a million visitors a year, just from the cruise line. To the right along the shore are countless private yachts, while to the left you get the cruise ships, fairies, and downtown. The space needle marks where the city armory, cannons, and firetrucks were concentrated to watch over ships coming in the harbor. I'm a navy brat and have seen port cities all my life, with Seattle being a weird one, with no real weather to speak of. Port cities have sheltered harbors that allow ships to be loaded and unloaded more often and easily, but Seattle has no weather to speak of other than constant drizzle. I tell people that Seattle doesn't know what real weather is anymore, because they've had their heads in the cloud too long.
Nah, I'm just crazy and so is everyone else in the state! But, Portland just south of us is flat out chaos and insanity! If the US goes down the toilet any faster there won't be anywhere anyone wants to live much longer.
