"Getting there" with Salvia

I've tried just about every hallucinogen under the sun, my favourite being Ketamine. Don't laugh! With a high enough initial dose, it takes you to other worlds.

I was intrigued to learn about Salvia. Its shamanic qualities, along with reported lucid hallucinations, made it seem like it was well worth a try.

Initially i bought an ounce of dried leaves and a gram of 10x extract. I tried the Quid method with the leaves, but it was so foul i had to spit it out (the leaves smelled slightly mouldy, so this may have been the problem). I then smoked a few bowls of the extract, probably half of it. I used a water pipe and a normal lighter. I could feel the reported first stages; my head being pulled backwards, and when i closed my eyes, there were hints of a "yellow subarine"-style fairground just out of sight behind me, but although i smoked more, i never "went under" or hallucinated anything more than patterns behind my closed eyes.

Frustrated with this, i bought two grams of 40x extract and a jet-flame bong lighter (as i had heard that it needs to be burned at a high temperature). Once again, i experience mild effects; patterns behind closed eyes and more of an empathic connection to music (BTW, Aphex Twin's Ambient Works 2 is by far the best music to trip to). But even though over the course of the evening i smoked a whole gram of 40x, i still couldn't get there.

I am smoking quickly, and holding it in for as long as i can without dying from lack of oxygen. I have tried smoking a few bowls in quick succession, but i can't do more than 4 or 5 in a row because it it quite exhausting holding my breath that much.

I just can't seem to crack it. Maybe because i've taken so much of everything else, i have built up some kind fo immunity? this seems unlikely though, seeing as it's a completely different active ingredient.

Does anyone have any tips?

40x man id smoke 1/40 and go real fuckin far

 

I've read that it can take people a few tries to really experience it, so i'm hoping that's the case for me.

I've just ordered some "horse killer" salvia, which is a different 40x extract. I'm starting to wonder whether the 40x i got before was a bit duff, as the 10x seemed to have more of an effect.

That's funny that you mentioned Aphex Twin's AW2: just last night I smoked Salvia while listening to that album. That is a great album for trips. Definitely wouldn't want to listen to the Richard D. James album or anything though. His stuff can get pretty harsh.

The first time I smoked Salvia - about four days ago - I was listening to The Flaming Lips' "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots", thinking that it would be a great, happy, flowery trip to the future... which it was, but I learned that I should probably stick with non-vocal ambient music for Salvia. At least for now, anyway.

If you haven't already, you may also want to try out Brian Eno's "Apollo Atmospheres and Soundtracks", or some Tangerine Dream albums. Perhaps Boards of Canada.

I tried it for the first time last night. I had a very very wierd experience.

Worked fine for me, first time.
Just with a pipe, and jet lighter. I burned it, and inhaled it in, held it in for about 10 seconds. 30 seconds later, i slowly drifted into a dream sort of state. I didnt feel like i was in reality. Everything seems exactly like it did in dreams. =| 20 minutes later, as i was just starting to come out of my peak, me and my mate had to go (wasnt the best timing for leaving in a rush). We got to his car, and I packed another cone, and had another hit (Just me, my mate didnt). We then pulled into a gas station just as I started to peak. He went inside to pay for the gas, and i sat there for 2 - 3 minutes by my self. I swore i heard voices talking to me. Repeating the same thing. Like somone was outside trying to confuse me. - I cant remember what they were saying.

Note: This was only 1 hit of 10x. Not any more.

The after affects lasted for about 45 minutes. My perspective of things was very altered and still found it difficult to believe that everything was real for those 45 minutes. Hard to explain with words. I recommend for curiouse people to try, but defenately look into it first on websites like www.erowid.com

salvia is like an entity. so visit her with respect - and not between tomatos and potatos.

if you smoke again in 2 weeks - 1 single hit. you'll see the magick.

1. salvia has reverse tolerance
2. when you smoked you have to wait some times to get your levels up again for the next smoke.

you can keep smoking lot's of times in a row but nothing will happen and you just wasted your time and money.

no light - no music - no talking - eyes closed

 

Yeah.. I had about 2 - 3 hits all in the period of about 40 minutes to an hour.

Each hit was a big breath untill my lungs started hurting. Then I held it in for 10 seconds or so.

I can see why its not good to smoke it too often, but instead ge your body up to scratch before smoking it again. I felt wierd yesterday. Like.. not sobre. Really confused. Hard to keep track of things. =\

Boards of Canada though. As you can probably tell, i love Warp records, but the BoC are pretty poor quality in my opinion. Geogaddi is just 2 or 3 tunes remixed over and over again. In many cases, the remixes are so similar you can hardly tell the difference. With artists like Aphex and Squarepusher being so fearlessly inventive, i find BoC's attitude a bit lazy.

I certainly prefer aphex twin and squarepusher to boards of canada, but I wouldn't want to listen to most Aphex Twin or Squarepusher material while backflipping on Salvia.

Although it is obvious I enjoy BoC more than you Can we still be friends?

 

check this out man. you gotta gotta gotta use a bong. you get way fatter rips that way. pack a fat bowl, and dont wait that long. smoke it to your dome, hold each hit in as long as you can, and dont stop untilt he bowl is emty. that is the only way that you are gunna trip good on salvia. (and by trip good i dont mean a "good trip", i mean you will actually trip)

I had the hardest trips of my life one after another 3 times in a row. It was in less than two hours for all 3. I don't believe Salvia Extract has tolerance.

I've done it a few times and each was just about the same thing. Haven't done many other drugs lately, so my tolerance is low.
Each time though I'd smoke a really packed bowl of the 10x and it hit me before I realized it. My first time I felt like my soul was quite literally ripped out of my body and place on a shelf above my bed and I laid there with my eyes tearing and mouth salivating out of control. I laid there and let out a huge laugh cueing the peak. Also, whatever position your body's in at that moment, you can't really change it for some reason.
I rode this out-of-body experience for 15 minutes or so and basically assessed this life that my soul has chosen to inhabit and operate. Everything seemed to check out because I haven't freaked out yet. Very shamanic experience. I felt like I should've been doing it in the Mexican desert with tribal dances and a big ritual and bonfire.
Great for an afternoon when you're bored, but NOTHING to fuck with or take lightly at all. It's almost totally incapacitating and can make one extremely paranoid. I could feel it coming on(I don't scare easily tripping), but made sure to lock myself in the room.
I downplayed it too much and scared the shit out of my cousin. He said I came off like a demon when he smoked it and that it was like a fullblown cycle of shrooms or acid, only condensed into 45 minutes. I had to agree.

 

ok, haha, i read it and then just forgot i guess.i yam but a stoner. still, you took too long between rips, which lessened the trip i guarantee that.

 

Have you actually listened to Aphex's Ambient Works 2 though? It's unlike any of his other albums. It's mostly soundscapes. Incredibly visual soundscapes. The sounds, melodies and structures he uses are so unusual that it sounds like the music is being transmitted from another world.

If you haven't got it, get it! Strongly recommended! There is no other album by anyone which is so individual and otherworldly.
