Front page of today's Washington Post:

"The Defense Department began working yesterday with a private marketing firm to create a database of high school students ages 16 to 18 and all college students to help the military identify potential recruits...

"The data will be managed by BeNow Inc. of Wakefield, Mass...."

That company was apparently acquired by another company... Brookwood Financial Partners, L.P.

Trkla is also a director of the Massachusetts Campaign for Children, a non-profit statewide child advocacy organization, amazingly enough.

I guess I should have seen this coming, when the "don't drop out on your kids" radio ad campaign turned out to be an Army recruiting tool. After confirming the details, I think I'll call that filthy little ccksucker and tell him (politely, though apparently is a filthy little ccksucker) what I think of what his company is doing "for the children."

 

What do they mean by, "to help the military identify potential recruits?" What factors make a young person a "potential recruit?"

 

"The purpose of the system . . . is to provide a single central facility within the Department of Defense to compile, process and distribute files of individuals who meet age and minimum school requirements for military service," according to the official notice of the program.

"Using multiple sources allows the compilation of a more complete list of eligible candidates to join the military,"

I would imagine the ending of that sentence should be ... 'if they wish'

this means the campaign in Iraq is gonna be longer, many countries are withdrawing their troops(don't worry "giorgio cespuglio"(george bush) we'll be by your side..)
so what better than picking up amongst the high-school guys, maybe after telling them some bullshit how to save some money to pay the university rate once you're back..if you will of course..

The head of the selective service doo dah came to our parish and he was talking about how 10 local officials had been set up in every county/parish in America to run the draft processes. And he said GIRLS would be drafted as well. OMG

A database of racial/ethnic info on all American kids, complete with intelligence assessments, SS numbers, and which can be shared with unknown third parties- all in the hands of a private US marketing firm- um... "what could POSSIBLY go wrong?"

I've emailed every exec at BeNow Inc, giving my opinion and asking theirs, but of course I've gotten no reply. They're apparently just forwarding inquiries to the feds.

Of all the crimes committed by the Bushmen, this is the worst thing I've seen yet. I can't believe that there's not a HUGE outcry. Apparently everyone- to the last man- is now too afraid of our government to help take it out when it's overstepped its bounds.

 

I turned 18 last december and I get them calling me all the time. They are really sneaky about it too, leaving messages sounding all important, till you hear the last line, I'm from the recruiting office in D.C. I don't think it's right for them to be passing all our info out like that. Especially SSN'S.

 

Part of the database will be grade point average, so students with poor HS grades (and less chance of going on to college) will be more heavily recruited.

I'm sure the neighborhood that you live in is considered, as well. Kids from the inner cities are easier targets than kids from affluent suburbs.

As for profiling, it makes some degree of sense.

The kid from East Lynching, Missouri who is a Young Republican, drives a pickup truck, has a collection of Kenny Chesney tapes, a serious Skoal addiction and the username 1ib3r41_ki113r on RushLimbaughIsGod.com is a far more likely candidate than the daughter of a Jewish lawyer for the ACLU who lives in Newton, Massachussets and whose family regularly gives to NPR.

God forbid the politicians send away their own sons to fight. Blacks and hispanics reproduce quickly enough and they don't have the power in office to do anything about influencing their children's careers in the Army.
