Getting into acting for the first time

Hey... to the actors out there, I was wondering what your experiences are with the learning curve of acting? It occurred to me that I may like to give it a shot. I mean, acting touches our every day lives so much, via television and movies, etc. Is this a stupid question? Hahaha... I'm not even sure where to start.
