I will be arriving in Amsterdam on Sept. 5th and will be leaving on Sept. 19. , and I have a few questions: What can I expect the weather to be like? What kind of clothes should I pack? ( ie: Jacket or coat / tee shirts or sweaters) Are jeans acceptable in most places? Anyone know of any special events during this time? and finally.....Where can I watch the NFL while I'm in town? (Minnesota Viking games) We are also going to visit Brussels and Luxomberg for a few days any suggestion there? I would appreciate any input you may provide.........Thanks
only a fool would give this thread a 5 star rating.... and the one star rating i gave it just knocked it down to a 3 star rating so obviously it was one and only one fool who voted and gave it 5 stars.... false advertising is not a cool way to get replies
Sorry to offend u guys, but I thought my post was excellent. It was well thought out, and the questions were straight forward. My presentation and format are more than acceptable.......sooooooo what is the problem??? Was it the Viking thing? Are u Packer fans....lol.....? I really hate it that you didn't like my post, but a 1. COME ON. It is at least worth a 2. Give me a break, I'm old!!! Kidding aside......I feel really bad about my "false advertising", it was very shameless of me.
Together with Sweden i think it was we wear the most jeans in the world (per person that is of course). No clue why i know things like that. The weather right now sucks, always expect rain. In september it can still be pretty warm at times though, so i guess layers and definetly a jacket. I dont even know what sport the NFL thing is.
You never heard of the Amsterdam Admirals (american) football team? They are an offshoot of the NFL(National Football League) here in the states. mescal: not a whole lot of places will show the NFL over in Europe. They might put it on their tube if they have it in a pub somewhere....just ask. Most of your questions can be easily found just by google-ing the question. Better than waiting for answers. GO BILLS!!! GO PIGS!!!
myrtje...... thanks the the information. Your reply is greatly appreciated. mopperm1...... I have been using many internet resources to learn about Amsterdam and the other countries I will be visiting. I think it is my responsibility to have some knowledge about the country and it's peoples before I visit. My objective is to be a respectful and grateful visitor to what seems to me to be a wonderful place in the world, even though I may be a bit high from time to time. As far as waiting for answers on this site, I can assure you it has been well worth the wait. P.S. Sorry about calling you a Packer fan.....LOL
Ive heard of them yes, but i dont care for American football whatsoever, so i couldnt name any teams from the US or anything. Football (as in soccer) is my love eh.
I hear ya, Myrtje. I hate football as well, but to be honest the only sports I like to watch are gymnastics (especially floor exercises) and baseball. Baseball because my dad used to take me to Cubs games at Wrigley Field when I was a little girl. GO CUBBIES!
Is soccer the only sport that interests europeans in a big way? Seems so...we tend to involve ourselves in all sports here in the US, be it football, basketball, hockey, baseball and slowly but surely soccer is getting bigger. Matter of fact I worked on the UEFA Draw and Awards show today at work.(I work at a sports television network) What happened to Ajax? Not in the UEFA Champions League anymore? Mescal: I would recommend visiting Brussels as a day or two trip. Where you should go is Germany....either Cologne, Heidelberg, Middle Rhine area(that's where I'm heading to in 2007) with all it's castles and wineyards and of course Munich/Bavaria area, my favorite city behind Amsterdam. Make sure to visit the maritime museum in Amsterdam. As soon as you get out of the Central Station in Amsterdam just head over to Central CS across the street and grab a nice fat dube right off the bat, then enjoy your trip in Europe.
nah, you overlooked the european sport of wearing jeans nearly every day of the year if my midsection pudge doesn't instantly give me away, the shorts I sport in amsterdam sure do!
I dont think its the only sport that interests us, its the only one that interests a lot of us haha. Dont think any tournament has the same impact as do the Euro or World Cup, so i guess youre right. Ajax got kicked out Really surprised me because they started out so well with the 2-1 win last time, and they played better than Kopenhagen did during the game. Theyre my fav. Dutch club btw. But my favourite club overall is Barca, and they won last year (against my fav. English team haha) so im good. Tonights the Super Cup so i finally get to see another one of their games. The Spanish League isnt broadcasted here sadly, so the only way i can ever watch one of the matches is when they play in the CL.
Aww my dad never took me anywhere, he doesnt care about sports haha. I knew the Cubs were baseball though, go mee. Ive played softball for about 3 years, and the team was pretty good (i wasnt, hated it aswell), so they became national champions, then later european champions (for kids that is). We once with loads of other dutch teams opened this baseball stadium in Rotterdam and there i saw a Holland - Cuba game. But thats the only 'real' game ive ever seen.
I understand that many people are not into American Football, (even in America) but for me Viking games are sorta of a religious experience, and I am going to miss the first two games. Thank God for Tivo!!!! Guess I should have booked this trip during the off season. Oh well, I will just suffer through it. 19 days in and around the Dam can't be all bad. Maybe I'll just stay stoned on Sundays and pretend it's Saturday. Come to think of it everyday will be Saturday while I'm there. So if you run into a really handsome stoned person wearing purple, white socks, and very white sneakers for the next few Sundays, stop and say hello, and maybe we will say a bit of a prayer to the Viking Gods. Or maybe will can burn one just for the hell of it. Also thanks again for the travel tips
I don't like football (either version) but I certainly like them better than any religious experience
