I believe the bicycle just might come in handy sometime in the near future. It beats walking and it beats all of the restrictions that come with having to feed a moving box. Not to mention all of the physical boundaries that extend beyond the box itself. The choice of path opens up, stop and go are redefined, storage is minimal, the mechanics are much simpler, and the fuel source just can't be beat for reliability and supply. The bicycle was a great invention, I like it.
I agree with you, I've been thinkin of investing in a bike recently. But the thing is, I'm terrified of riding on main roads because i'm always hearing about bike fatalities (usually due to stupid ass car drivers). But I figure, if the dutch can do it.. so can we!
Biking is the way to go, you're right. You can be your own mechanic, go off the road quite easily, it's cheaper (short term and long term: no gas, little maintenance, no insurance...). It's healthier anyways, both for you and the Earth.
Maybe sometime in the near future well be riding in pedal powered cars or something. Haha that'd be cool, especially watching the fuzz chase someone. As for me, my skateboard gets me from point A to point B and i can carry it with so i dont have to lock it up and leave it. I think Im already starting to see a few more bikes on the road the past year whcih is awsome.
im definatley with you on this one...also, its easier to run from the police too because like you said, a lot more choice of path...
In Ireland the police have bikes (the ones without the engines) aswell. I think they have them in the UK aswell. Seemingly they are handy for chasing youths through housing estates. As for the original point I fullt agree, I think it's a disgrace that people in big towns and cities have cars. I live about an hour outside Dublin where I work in a small town and get the bus to work, but other than that walk or cycle to mates houses or the pub or video shop. Having a car for me is pointless but there are so many people in my situation who have got cars!
definately definately riding bikes is so much better for you and the earth. i have been hit by a car, but it was purely an accident and the driver of the car was way more freaked out than i was. she felt HORRIBLE. also, i have a little 50 cc scooter that is just awesome. it holds a gallon of gas and that lasts for about 100 miles. its good for those times i need to get somewhere just a little quicker than i could on my bicycle. walking is great too! i find it really therapeutic.
hahaha that's awesome. But the originator of the thread has a good point. I thought when I clicked on the link that it would just be some 'save the environment' blah blah blah. Instead Pear_Tree doesn't make even one argument for the environment, but logically explains why otherwise the bike is a better alternative.
I totally agree with you on this subject... If you are going to save Mother Earth , We half to stop feeding the fossil fuel moster in the drive way!!!!!! And start peddling for a better cleaner Earth..
