I personalty think that Georgia summers are unbearable, because of how hot and humid it gets. What do all of you think?
I'm a Connecticut native. I relocated to ATL. where I lived for six years.... I enjoyed the extremely mellow winters. I greatly appreciated the cooler evenings during the hottest point of the summer. Also sought the refuge of AC on hot days. All and all..for me, living in ATL rocked.
Nice, Yeah living in the ATL is awesome. Though I live in Marietta now (outside of ATL.) The winters here are okay over all. I only turn on the A/C when is becomes necessary to.
They can be yes, I have been in New Orleans in the summer. So I know that summers there are just as bad if not worse then here. I just don't like how humid it gets here.
its hot and humid. estivation is kind of like the opposite of hibernation... chill in the day time.. and go nocturnal
I'm a Georgia native. I'm used to them, but I can understand why other people find them intolerable. Sometimes it gets so hot, then add in the humidity, and it feels like you can't breath. You know it's bad when the local news begins each broadcast with the nightly report on how many people died of heatstroke that day.
Very true you know its bad then. I am also a Georgia native and used to them. Its just some days are not tolerable.
I'm in SC, so we have similiar summers. I have a love/hate relationship with southern summers. On one hand, I love the languid, lazy feeling the heat gives you. I love swimming in rivers during the middle of summer, when the water is as warm as bath water. I love what the humidity does for my skin. I like the sensuality of it all. On the other hand, around about August I start to get really tired of feeling like I'm wilting because of consecutive days of 90% humidity and 100+ degree heat. Feeling like you're constantly swimming through the air because the humidity is so thick gets old after a while too.
I can understand that. Southern summers can be enjoyable at times. At the same time the temps can be unbearable.
that would be a great porn name. I knew a girl in school named Misty Rivers. I really, really hope she grew up to be a porn star.
Thats cool. I know how unbearable it is in the summer in most places. I have family that live in New Orleans and visit in the summer when I can.
To survive summer in Georgia, you can't follow the same routine you did back in Massachusetts or Seattle. Watch the animals: the birds and woodland creatures take it easy in the heat of the day. Don't try to go run errands driving around in full sun in your hot car in July walking around black asphalt parking lots. Do as much as you can in the mornings, take it easy then venture out when the sun starts dropping below the trees. I realize that you have to wear clothes in public, but bare as much as you dare: thin fabric, loose fit, cotton will keep you as cool as possible until you are someplace private where the clothes can go in the laundry basket and you can take a shower and take a naked break. Keep a bottle or two of water with you at all times. Don't let heat stroke sneak up on you. Bathe often, go swimming. Change your diet. You can't eat meatloaf and mashed potatoes like you did in February. Eat more veggies, fruits and salads. Go to the mountains and cool off. The mountain waterfalls are refreshing and the mountain rivers are always chilly.
I roofed in Florida around Jupiter-West Palm Beach and if I showed up at 6:30,by 6:40 I would be soaking wet and feeling greasy. Not a breath of a breeze-high humidity and HOT!!Pretty hard to stay out of the weather when you have to nail on roofing. Very little of it is done indoors.( I DO miss the lightening bugs.)
Born and raised in middle GA. Lived my entire adult life in the A. For me, it has always been very simple: the hotter, the more humid, the better. I love heat and I love sweating. I get all the Vitamin D I need.:sunny:
