This man has been riding on the wave of anti-war protests to make himself popular. Many people idolise him, particularly for telling british soldiers not to fight, but what good would this do? The soldiers signed up voluntarily and most of them wouldn't take this advice, and the only certain result would be GG loosing his posion as MP - meaning that he looses influence on the events that unfolded. This was just being stupid. Onto the stuff further back. Ever heard of War and Want? If you haven't, it's probably because your too young too. It was a charity as bit as OXFAM, with simalar aims, and George Galloway was a big man in it. He filched so much money off it that it went bankrupt. If you haven't heard of it, it's because of him. He is an mysoginist and an adulterer. When his wife was pregnant he was having an affair, and he'd boast about it. On one occasion he had a taxi waiting outside a hotel while he was shagging this lady for FOUR hours. He tried to put the bill on War on Want, but they wouldn't have it. So, instead, he charged it to a part of the Labour Party he was involved with, which, coincedentally (sp?), was focused on the middle east. This meant that the secretary who worked there didn't get a slaray that month (he was part time and his wife was pregnant); i'd describe his experiance more, but he is an aquaintance of mine and I wouldn't be comfortable in doing that. He set up a group (charity/political, can't remember) once that didn't even have proper offices. Galloway is now setting up a political organisation for young socialists, so if you get involved in anything like that, make sure he isn't involved.
Hmmm seems you are mixing legitimate criticism of his political positions with far less seemly character attacks based on his private life. If the man was dishonest, embezzled funds and espoused beliefs contrary to your own, fair enough, those are issues pertaining to his public service (or lack thereof). But the rest about his affairs and such is noone's business but his own and that of his wife and family.
I suppose you have a point. I got a little carried away - the man was such a dick to War and Want and my acquaintance, it just makes me so mad. The beliefs bit, though, is wrong. I'm anti war, i just think that Galloway isn't a very good person to be representing us - he's one of the major figures. He's a nasty man and it doesn't do a campaign good to be associated with such a hypocrit
Considering the lying sleazeballs at the head of the Pro-War camp (aka The US administration) Id say Galloway is a minor league sleaze by comparison. At least he stood up in Parliament against the lies when noone else would.
True - but what he did meant that he had a lot less influence, and it didn't really affect anything. Anyone could've predicted that. When i heard about it for the first time i thought 'good for him', but someone explained it to me and i saw The Truth. You're right about him being a small fish, but this is more of a warning for Brits note to get involved in that organisation.
