So, this just happened to my husband: "Your drug will be in a higher tier in 2015." "Your plan also covers lower-cost, alternative drugs. To help save money, please ask your doctor if a lower=cost alternative drug might be right for you". These inexpensive drugs are jumping by something like 90%. My husband's Amitriptylin is going to increase from $9 mo. to $95 mo. I found an article by a guy speculating about why this is happening. http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2014/09/going-generic-drug-prices.html
Prices for everything are starting to go through the roof...it is insane.......how can most people afford to live decently? SOMETHING DIFFERENT HAS TO HAPPEN!!!!!
Generic drugs are only available from 3 companies now and there's no longer a cap on prices so they charge whatever they want... Gabapentin is $85 for 90 pills. Remember who wrote the drug portion of the Affordable Care Act... Big Pharma. Should be a discount card available for your husband's meds that will get it down to around $12-$15... Just ask. EDIT: to say this is in the US... There's still a shytload of generic drug manufactures world wide.
it actually has nothing to do with that, the cost increase is coming from the drug manufacturers. generally insurance will only move medication to a different tier level when a cheaper alternative becomes available
