I believe there is a politics of religion. That is, a politics between religions. The Catholic Church is losing members while Evilangelicals, er Evangelicals are gaining. Evangelicals have used an agressive anti-gay stance to win converts. The pope is following suit. I believe it is going to get worse with these factions as more and more people see the truth. The pope and the evilangelicals are supporting a hopeless cause. Have pity on their wretched souls. Amen. .
The Pope is welcome to have his own beliefs.....I actually have an amount of respect for him and his job , I wouldnt want to have the burdens that he does. I wish him an easy life !
The evangelicals have already found a "language" to hide their bigotry; it's: "hate the sin love the sinner." (funny that phrase came about exclusively for homosexuality) Well, it sounds like the Catholic Church is trying to come up with a "language" to cloak their bigotry. I'm not buying it. They like to promise all kinds of things as possible at these summits. It makes the news and the Church looks like it's abreast of the times. .
Just counter that by going to the vatican website and writing a piece about how corruption in the catholic church is destroying their credibility amongst the italian mafia who are outrtaged that such a comparitively innocent organisation as the mafia would consort with such evil bastards as the catholic church

Pope is the guy who runs the biggest paedo ring in the world. He has to somehow deflect media attention from all the kiddy fiddling the Church with the capital C does. So he turns his attention on gays.
Personally I am sick of religion pointing the finger at gays... there are not many references to male/male female/female relationships in the bible and the references which are being used are questionable in themself as to whether they refer to same sex relationships. If it was such a big issue, there would have been more written about it for us to go by. I wonder if the pope is a big closet case himself and taking it out on the greater community because he is bitter in being unable to release his tensions... Since when did it become ok for other religions to exist with-in christianity... is the pope desperate or what? I mean really... I feel the most important thing here is that we love and appreciate each other for whom we are and do the best we can to be a good example to other people. All you have to do is look around the world and see how much damage is done in the name of religion...

I think the 00s is the decade of extremism, where moderate voices are snuffed by extremists on both sides going for sound bite and rhetoric value. The more polarised you are the more your attraction. El Papa is using this to best effect. Bush did same in 2004. Sad though it maybe, gay bashing gets votes, or converts, as is the case maybe.
The Pope's job is to uphold the Catholic beliefs to the extreme and project his views to all other Catholics, whether they want to hear it or not. Bashing gays, in my opinion, is just another way to deflect the whole priest-fondling-boys occurences sometimes. I honestly wonder why the Pope keeps speaking out against gays, saying they're ruining their lives or participating in an abomination of a lifestyle, etc. It's getting quite tiring. I've learned not to be offended by what Catholic heads rant about. I just get annoyed and angry. It's so routine. Birth control is a sin and it's killing babies, gays are going to hell and they're destroying themselves and making the world into a horrible place and so forth. I just wish the Pope would keep his mouth shut.
I posted a topic on there called 'the ignorance continues'. I noticed that it became progressivly less relevant as it went on but I just needed to let off some steam XD
What I don't understand is this- what makes gay people so different from any other sinners? Gluttony is a sin. Does that mean that the Catholics should feel the need to persecute fat people? Why don't they make such a big deal about infidelity? Isn't infidelity more of a threat to the sanctity of marriage? Why (and furthermore, how) are gay people supposedly ruining the world? And whatever happened to people not judging others? Passing judgement is incredibly unchristian, but it's really a celebrated practise in modern Christianity. I think it really is just a way to turn people's hatred and/or ignorance into added members for the Catholic (and any other) Church.
