god! these headaches are endless! and all i can take is tylenol. i try to avoid taking tylenol, or anything else, because tylenol give me rebound headaches, too. i've tried ice packs on my neck, on my eyes, i tried some sinus medication, rose oil. peppermint oil, changed diet...i'm losing my mind over here. is there a remedy i'm forgetting?
What kind on headaches are they? Migraines or? I've never found tylenol to work for any headache whatsoever I swear that stuff is useless. Aspirin is a much more effective drug if it doesn't bother your stomach and in some cases taking it with a strong coffee can be as effective as presciption drugs but the trick is to get it into you fast. Have you tried drinking heaps of water? Because it's free has no side effects and can even take the pain down with clusterheadaches and they are pure evil. Dehydration will really bring them on and there a few ways to do it. Drink a glass of water every half hour or just keep pouring it into you if it's practical to do so. I drink 8 litres a day but thats really the extreme end of things but I get some severe clusters that throw me to the ground. Man there are so many things you can try thats effective but it seems it's different for everyone. Habe you tried taking a shower and alternating between cold and warm water? This really works too and can knock the headache right out and the warm water after the cold really eases the pain even if the cold will bring the levels up a bit. Or just stick your head under cold water and alt back to hot. Umm lifting a heavy weight and really strainging the body can work. Oxygen and while I can prob assume u dont carry an oxy tank around with you even sitting close to a wall unit air conditioner blasting on high will work. I know so many tricks and some of them are kinda radical b/c I've had them for 16 years so it depends on your pain level. But if these things can work for clusterheadaches they have an even better chance with migraines; i get them too. If I knew more about the kind of pain, where exactly in the head it's located...like is it always on one side or everywhere I might have some better ideas. Water is prob your best bet though b/c it's so effective without any side effects. So many of the mds drugs are hard on the heart like Imitrex ect as its closely related to DMT so its not good for the system. Tea and alcohol are something to avoid as well as watching your diet but this can become a real pain in the ass. Processed foods, cheeses, msgs u can prob find a list online a headaches.org of the worst foods to eat. Over sleeping can bring them on as well which sux b/c they wear you down so much. Sadly I know too much about headaches and have tried just about everything there is from aspirin to lsd but id try increasing the water first. I could sit here and post things Ive tried all day and have you pissed off at me when it doesn't work b/c everyone is so different and every headache. And i see u are pregnant so ill assume you dont want mind altering drugs. Is this part of the pregnancy b/c hormones are often the case. Oddly enough I know women, my g/f included who had nasty headaches and when she got pregnant it took them away. But i feel for you man I know what they are like and how they make life miserable. Ill ask my g/f b/c most of my remedies aren't something you want to be putting in your body now. The PC screen isn't good for them either and im a fool for sitting here but im just waiting for another attack. Increasing the protien in your diet is important so if you are a veg head u need to watch that and make sure u are getting enough. Just eating right in general and not letting yourself get hungry b/c that brings them on. The thing is almost all cures seem to be a catch 22 type thing like the coffee and aspirin work but that dehydrates you and I did't see that you had a kid on the way until U was half way through this so it really limits u and takes alot of what I said away. I'll try to come up with more things I've done in the past that have worked that won't harm the body. Be wary of meditation too b/c while it can help in the long run if u are in a cycle of them it can also cause an attack the catch 22 again anyways good luck man and try the water peace Gentle
thanks, man. i'll definitely try the hot/cold alternating shower. i'm on bedrest and stuff, with hypertension. i'm getting migraines right now, but i totally know what you're saying about the cluster headaches. the thing that worked best for cluster headaches with me was physical therapy and therapeutic massage. i've cut my sodium WAY back, but now i'm wondering if i might have cut it down TOO far and am causing a bit of dehydration or whatever. so i'm going to check out that option. i get migraines whenver i'm dehydrated or lay in one place too long. and you're right. tylenol is useless. that' sprobably why ANYONE can take it.
oh man you get clusters too? sweet jesus I really feel bad for you now. So you know what hell is too then? lol I'm on prednisone now, haven't slept in two weeks b/c as u know they always attack in the sleep. I swear I'm about half insane now between the headaches and zero sleep and am kinda like Ed Norton in the beggining of the fight club. lol I don't even know whats going on anymore or if I'm really here typing this or having one of those horrifying dreams that comes with clusters. I had to take my guns to my buddies and leave them there b/c if I had one in the house I would have put one of them to my gd head by now. man i just feel really bad for you and if there is anything at all I can do although I don't know what, let me know seriously dude I have no motive here but total empathy if I can give you cash for meds if it would help I would b/c I just know man and why am I looking at at PC screen??? at least im not feeling sorry for myself now and how u can do this with kids man, women are tough i just wanna curl up and die or cry or cry myself to death life, don't talk to me about life lol peace Gentle ps if I sound a bit insane it's only b/c I am right now
yeah, stop looking at the pc screen RIGHT NOW. lol. they always triggered my clusters. i have what you call "multiple causation headaches." some are aided through physical therapy, chiropractice, and anti seizure meds. but right now i'm not going anywhere. but you'd be surprised how simply one can deal with agonizing headaches and children at the same time. it's still not labor. i had migraines EVERY DAY in school from the age of 14 til 18 until i had them diagnosed. the first time i took imitrex, i cried. it was a miracle.
I get awful headaches, cluster, migranes, sinus, you know it. I've always been prone to headaches since I was a young child. You mentioned being on an anti-seizure med. What med are you on? I'm on 500mg of Dilantin daily. I had 5 grand mals the day after I gave birth to my twins (supposedly due to the Toxemia and H.E.L.L.P. syndrome) and have been on the Dilantin ever since (which was two years ago) My neuro is talking about weaning me off of it but I'm scared silly. The only other time I experienced any type of seizure was when I was 6 months old, my mother tells me. It was a febrile seizure due to a very high temp. It only happened once, so they didn't run any tests or put me on meds because it was due to the high temperature.
my daughter had a febrile siezure. they're pretty common, but the first one freaked me out. but it only happened as my daughter's fever was breaking. i'm not on any anti-seizure meds at the moment, but i was on depakote for awhile.
I'll bet that freaked you out, I know I would have been, no doubt about it! You should see me even when my kids have a low-grade temp. Worry, worry, worry nonstop until it drops.
I took Fioracet in all my pregnancies and even had to take Propoxyphene and even Vicoden in some of them. My migraines just are too bad to not be treated. Treating them is easier on your body than the stress you go through when you are suffering. WHERE is your doctor with a Fioracet Prescription? Imitrex is also VERY safe in pregnancy. My neurologist is one of the most prominent neuros in the country and he often has to use DAILY Imitrex with some pregnant womyn. It is not damaging, but the pain can be. You end up seizing, or dehydrating (like my neuro was afraid I might) you could end up with a premature birth, a baby deprived of oxygen ect. Docs who won't treat pain in pregnant womyn need to be ELIMINATED from the medical arena. You CAN get treatment. See a good neuro at a large teaching hospital. Personally, I wouldn't go to a "community hospital" to get a bandaid. They are just too far behind the times. And with the pain you are in, you need UP TO DATE medical care.
i'm under the impression that he's not a man who takes me seriously at all. he wouldn't listen to me about my blood pressure, or my headaches. i have taken fioracet for my migraines, but when i mention the migraines to him, he just tells me cold compress and tylenol (which we all know is pointless).
Honey, see someone else. I saw THREE different doctors during my last pregnancy, an OB, a perinatologist AND my neuro. They all worked together to make me as comfortable as possible. Blessings. You should NOT be suffering like this.
dave is about to kick some ass. i guess i'm more scared of switching doctors this late into the pregnancy, what with all the trouble i had with my insurance company. i've dealt with these migraines and headaches before, and my baby really is doing well. what i do worry about it the risk of stroke during one of my more severe migraines, should it go untreated. and since i'm laying on my left side all the time, finding a new doc sounds pretty daunting. dave will be attending my next appointment with me, to really lay it on the line about my headaches. i get pretty passive sometimes, i feel so bad about complaining, to be honest. it makes me feel like a crybaby.
you are NOT a crybaby. Headaches are a serious health problem!!!! You can still keep your OB, if you need to, and still see a Neurologist. I did. OBs don't know much about headaches. Neurologists are really the people who are handling headaches the best.
yeah, i saw a neurologist. they just said it was migraines and "here, take this depakote, never darken my doorstep again."
That's awful. See someone else. I had to see about 8 doctors before I got the Neuro who saved my life. I mean, it was so bad, my life was in danger from my not being able to tolerate the constant pain. My doctor saved me. It would have been him, or street heroin, (only half joking) I think (well, not while I was pregnant, but the headaches were ALWAYS so bad.)
i've tried so many different things that i'm just so tired of it all. i have that tmj, too. though it's called somethign different now. when i get back up to ft. collins i'll start seeing doctors up there. i'm also considering consulting a pain management specialist.
you know what else makes me really mad? my husband suffers from migraines as well, and when he saw the doctor, the whole world came to a stand-still! it was like a national emergency. the treatment he recieved was far and away more serious than i received. it's like the doc just considered me a whiner and pat me on the head, all patronizing and shit. i still get real burnt over that.
i have heard a calcium deficiencey (sp?) can cause headaches i get head aches all the time. what can you take when you are nursing a newborn? how about herbal meds? i am concerned about milk supply because i need to keep mine flowing.
These fucking doctors man are nothing but money hungry assholes with little or no understanding of beyond their clipnotes. I know exactly where you are coming from. My first doctor while I was in a cycle getting 5 to 10 headaches per day, all ones that floored me suggested I start jogging. Ummm yea. The specialist are worse and only made me feel bad about mayself as if it were my fault or I was a whinner. And what u said about getting a presciption and "goodbye" yep been there with three of them including one who would only tell me how fascinating the whole syndrome was to him. I was so glad he he fucking enjoyed my pain. ANd to this day I still have no been taken seriously or can even get across the simple point that maybe he can't actually feel the pain and it doesnt matter what his fucking book says. You mentioned someone named Dave so I assume this is your b/f or husband. Yes bring him! My girlfreind went in with me as she is the more aggressive one b/c I'm passive and get bullied all the time. Im not a wimp I just don't like confrontation esp when I'm down and out. And this really did work to a degree b/c at least she could confirm what I was saying and I could even tell the slimy bastard didn't like it. Surround the bastard, bring your hubby, your friends, anyone who has seen u in this condition and just maybe he will get it. I know that feeling tired of it all man. Im just so gd worn down now but seem to be a little better on the prednisone; I think it's breaking the cycle, I'm praying. This drug has always worked for me in the past but again I have no idea if it can be taken with pregnancy. I agree about looking for another doc b/c you may just get lucky and their has to be some good people out there; possibly. I had to take it into my own hands and rarely see a doc at all now. I don't know your opinions on drugs or what you think about them but the only relief I found was in scared mushrooms and lsd. My cycles would start in March, April and last until the end of summer of even into the winter at times. Then I tried the mushrooms and it destroyed the cycles and i find it works every year if i can find the drugs except for the very end of the cycle but either way thats cutting 6-9 months down to 1 to 1.5 months of the year so I would say that was the drug that made me cry with relief. And for many it works and some get no results like everything else but i found i was getting better results just trying anything myself. I swear I get the oddest things to work. Right now I am taking motion sickness pills every four hours and its actually working to keep the attacks away for whatever reason. You know how the vessels swell on the sides? I find that the motion sickness pills seal up and shrink the viens down and actually keep the headaches away almost the same way Imitrex works. Again everyones diff and I would never advise anyone to take any drug legal or not, just an observation. But they are the real deal clusters, the smash your head off the floor ones and these pills are helping to keep them away right now, weird. But then again ive tried everything, even dosing on DXM with mixed results. I know how irresponsible this is putting random shit into my body but the fact is it gets so bad I will try anything now and i figure motion pills are safer than half the shit they give me anyways. But even with these I'm not only taking two at once every four hours and 3 or 4 at night. Really I just don't know and I just experiment and find different things work at diff times and I know how sickening it is to be boincing from one "cure" to another and frankly peoples advice or opinions like mine can just get gd annoying. But I think you can find the answer yourself and right now I know it's the hardest time to do so. As I said I don't reccommend any drugs to anyone as I'm no doctor and can only do what I think is right for me. But you do sound much tougher than me, hell I can tell you are so if I can get through this i know you will. yea I wish I could be of any real help and know I'm not but hell I dunno just like everyonme else here posting ya know I want u to know people actually really do care and would help in anyway they can b/c Mds can give you the feeling the world is a cold uncaring place but it isn't true. peace Gentle
thanks, gentle. i'm heartily sick of the "cures" i've been offered. i'm pissed off at the treatment i've endured. i'm hoping that when we settle in Ft. Collins or eve denver that i'll be able to sample foorm a better pool of physicians.
