Hello, the engine drivers of the major German railway company are on strike again this week. Now I'm sitting in a hotel room. I can't reach my next appointment, nor can I go back home until maybe monday next week when this strike is hopefully over. The engine drivers union is a very small union, but they use their power (trains roll without guards, but not without engine drivers) to reach some stupid ego goals. For their leaders it's not so much about more money or more holidays. It's about claiming the ability to speak for other railway workers who are organised in other bigger unions. I had a lot of trouble and lost a lot of time with this railway company over the last year or so. But I really hope that they keep a stiff upper lip in this case and we have one union less after this. Really. That was my rant of the day . Regards Gyro
Hello, na, I'm in small town an hour east of Cologne, friday I have an appointment in the Ruhr Valley and on sunday evening I would like to be back deep in the south west. I think I can't even reach Cologne by bus from where I am now. Regards Gyro
Wait, you are in Köln.. and made no effort to get in touch with me, not even so I could run up and say Hey, how you doing, are you okay? -.-
XD I am South East, on a map it probably doesn't look that far but very windy roads for me to get through before a highway, so it'll take a long time hehe.
If you start driving his direction and he starts walking your direction it will make it a shorter trip.
Shit - I misread the thread title - thought it read 'fracking bastards'. They definitely are bastards. German union men are harmless in comparison.
Hello, I thought you are at the Austrian boarder. Bummer, I had two hours to kill in Deuz yesterday morning . Now I'm stuck a good hour to the east of Koeln. Regards Gyro
Hello, that would be great. With a bit of luck both, the horse and I, will survive the show . Regards Gyro
Hello, if she would be where I thought she is there would be about 500km (as the crow flies) between us. If Irminsul is actually in Cologne we are separeted by only 100km at the moment. Wait, let me get to the window... I'm waving like mad. Can you see me ? Regards Gyro
Hello, compared to others that might be true. Every year I get older I come more to the conclusion that basic infrastructure system -like public transportation, electricity, water supply, etc.- should not be privatised. Most of the time that ends bad for the customer. Regards Gyro
if you were in america, there wouldn't even BE a train, to someplace like that, and the only way you would have been able to have gotten there would have been by driving or getting a ride off of someone. town i grew up had lots of buses and several trains, and now there's nothing.
They get their own parking spots here in the netherlands. It's called carpooling and it seems a great initiative At least I almost always see cars parked there. I agree. Better technology but less punctuality. Something's off here
Hello, yepp, I know. But there are also countries that have better, cheaper and more reliable public transportation. Why not take them as a role model? Regards Gyro
Hello, I think I remember that from the city of Stuttgart. Way before the city are parking lots. Commuters, who had agreed to pool, can come to the parking lots with their own cars and meet there to switch cars. The goal is to have more than one person in each car and less cars in the city centre. I think that is a great idea. But on the other hand I think people tend to like their own cars so much, that they don't use this offer. Regards Gyro
If only 100 people per city would make use of the carpooling spots around them, it already makes a worthy impact. I would think the same (people with a car just prefer to use their own car) but in practice it does seem to work (over here at least). If every car driver would want to carpool there wouldn't be enough carpool spots anyway
