Ok, so I found an old thread on this which was started but received no responses, so I've decided to start a new one. I'm getting ready for my first grow and want to know which method will provide a larger yield, casing or cakes? It seems like logic would point to cakes since a larger surface area is exposed, and thus there is more potential area for the shrooms to sprout from. However, most of the pics I've seen of casings fruiting look like they're more abundant than cakes. Also, just a little side question I didn't want to start an entire thread for; what's a good way to keep the correct temperature in the fruiting environment?
lol yeah getting responds about growing is really hard here. but i grow so in my opinion i would say go with caseings. The cakes do give off alot but caseings do give off more grams in the end.. and the piks they show are always incredable. i think no one would post a shit caseing pik lol.. but yea caseings are the way to go.. however i still do cakes here and there its a little easier
also i keep my chamber in room temp. they seem to do just fine. but if you had to i suppose a heating pad on low would do fine. what strain are you growing?
Thanks for the tips. I'll try to set up a casing, but I might just go with cakes since it's my first grow and basically simplicity is the most important thing to me right now. I'm growing B+, just sent off for my spores today =]
B+ is a damn good strain. I saw one that was 45 grams fresh. That was a fun 4th of July. I think that casings are actually easier, and they do produce more fruits. They actually have a lot more surface area than cakes. For some strange reason, I can never get an even pinset on cakes, but casings are no problem.
Honestly if it is your first grow, stick with the PF Tek religiously. If done correctly, it's a sure fire way to a shitload of shrooms, also, you can take your own sporeprints and THEN fuck around with side projects like casing and such. Casing works great when you fully understand them (a friend is just learning casing himself and for him the PF Tek provides EXCELLENT results; very simple and to the point with plenty to show).
I agree. I'd wait until casing after atleast one succesful cake grow. Then you'll have some prints to work with incase anything contams. You won't have to buy more spores.
