I believe that people don't appreciate amphibians enough. I hear a lot about other types of animals being endangered, like pandas and fuzzy animals like that, but I almost never hear about frogs. I believe frogs are one of the best indicators of the health of an environment. Frogs and other amphibians are usually some of the first animal populations to start dwindling if an area is unhealthy, since they absorb water through their skin and still live on land. As I was reading about some frog species I'd never heard of before, I noticed it was an endangered species, and I noticed a lot of frog and toad species are endangered. I think this is an indicator that we're slowly poisoning our water sources, and the frogs are starting to see the effects... Of course, some types, like bufo marinus (cane toad/marine toad) are doing quite well, but the more sensitive types seem to be suffering. I'm concerned that the world may lose a few more frog species in my lifetime.

Does anyone else here love frogs and want to try to protect them? Is anyone else concerned and saddened by how many amphibians are endangered?

I e-mailed the leader of NC PARC about educating schoolchildren about the effects humans have on the natural environment of amphibians and reptiles, and he replied saying that the funding for the PARC program specifically prohibits him speaking in schools... Does anyone else think it's sort of messed up for it to have to be that way?

Here are some links to different sites that have to do with frogs/amphibians/reptiles.

"Earth is facing its largest mass extinction since the disappearance of the dinosaurs, with up to half of the world's 6,000 amphibian species in danger of extinction, conservationists warn."

Frogs were so common here in Canada when I was a kid and now they are a rare sight.
