so I wouldn't be surprised if many of you knew about this already, but I just got some sweet fabric for free so I wanted to share the wealth... this organization called Freecycle is an online group for people who have things they want to get rid of for free, divided by area--maybe there's a group near you!...people give everything from furniture to office supplies to fabric to old cars away! so maybe check it out; I haven't had a bad experience yet! www.freecycle.org
Yep I am a member of my local freecycle. I have got rid of a bunch of stuff that was cluttering up my life. Another great resource for getting rid of and finding stuff is http://www.craigslist.org/ . This one isn't always free but you can find good deals if you search. Fleassy maybe you can start up your own UK chapter.
Wow, I've never heard of this place but I just joined my two local chapters. Thanks for passing it on!
Thanks for the heads-up on this organization!! wow... I never thought my city would have a chapter and we have the most members out of anyone in the state! I had to join my local chapter as well. Great post!
i JUST watched a show about this like 2 days ago, and totally forgot to check it out....this reminded me though, thanx
anytime! i've really had some luck with my group...i've gotten some cool vintage fabric, an awesome bookshelf, and a hanging planter yay! and i've gotten rid of some things that i just couldn't throw away cause "they're still good..." but i didn't need them!
yeah i can see this being an easier way to give away my stuff that's still good, but that i'll never use/wear. I hate giving my stuff to something like value village where they overprice for used goods anyways. This way i can chose who's worthy of my precious lucy memorabilia
I was on two in my area...I'm on hiatus because there is SO much mail from it...and everyone posts to both.
Freecycle rocks! I got Jazz bball tickets! 'course the Utah Jazz really suck right now and their tickets aren't worth much, it was still a great time and a fun experience. In my area, there are collectors though who jump on every "offer" and post lots of "wanted" ad. But the really unvaluable stuff is what I want, so I don't begrudge people their stuff fetishes. I am getting buckets I need for my kitchen, and glass and cardboard for solar ovens. If I had any bobbins up and running I'd get fabric, too, which is a perfect score for any good hippie The 2 offers I put up got up to 20 takers in an hour! *off to check out craigslist, which I thought was still pretty limited to SF but guess that baby's grown! *
yeah i'm on a couple lists around green bay and its amazing the range of stuff posted. i just unloaded a bag of empty plastic cd cases its crazy how fast you have to jump on some stuff.
