I think that's the "label" they put on bands like Espers?

What are some other good bands like that you'd recommend (I could search amg or Myspace but lazy)

They also seem to call it "New Weird America"...

Maybe try Devendra Banhart if you haven't? I can't say I like him much anymore but maybe you would.

    maybe Chad VanGaalen?
    Mirah
    Herman Dune for sure
    Califone
    Tim Seely
Paul Duncan is kind of an ambient freak folk I guess
Lilys, they are more psych though

    So, enjoy, hopefully.

edit: How could I forget, I guess I would put Joanna Newsom too.

keep in mind Penny, that some of those albums start off typical and kind of delve into an experimental/freaky feel as the album progresses. All of those albums are versitale for sure with a folk feel at the basis, IMO.

if you want specific albums I can do that too. later. after class.

    Chad VanGaalen - Infiniheart
    Mirah - Advisory Committee
Herman Dune - Switzerland Heritage (get this one for sure)
    Califone - Quicksand/Cradlesnakes
Tim Seely - Funeral Music (kinda more electronic though, but kinda what you want maybe)
Paul Duncan - Be Careful What You Call Home
    Lilys - The 3-Way
    Joanna Newsom - Ys

and anything by Kaki King, not freak folk, but beautiful music.
