Always wondered what peoples favourite teams are and why? For me, I quite like England and Charlton. I think Charlton have got what it takes. England team has improved over the years. What do people think about team players fighting each other? For our American guests, when I say football, I mean Soccer
oh, the fighting... it looks quite silly when somebody is slugging someone who is wearing a helmet... good way to hurt your hand
I think Manchester United need to get David Beckham back. When they sold him off to spain, it was the biggest mistake in Manu's career. I have seen a few football games on and am wondering what rule changes can be made to make sure that a referee makes a right decision. For example goals and no goals. Quite often I heard stories of how there were a few so called "Phantom goals". In other words goals that should not have been allowed. Take that game where someone in the crowd slipped a spare ball into the goal and the referee allowed it even with evidence to support otherwise? Sure glad he or she was sacked. When is our next Euro cup due? Is it every four years? I know we had Euro2004, is the next one 2008?
Never been a fan myself. People at school used to ask 'what football team do you support?' as though it was a natural state of being, as though tribalism was as much a part of life as eating and sleeping. I've tried to like football. It would be an incredibly useful thing to like, to know about, it is an international language of communication helping people to form bonds as much as it does to divide them. Every World Cup I try again to see what it is that England fans find in it. But every time I fail. I just can't find football interesting....
I think it's funny in the world cup how England supporters switch from wanting England to win the cup, to wanting the team that knocked England out to lose horribly.
I went to the South Bank - Upton Park from the age of 15 till 21, singing ribbald songs, shouting abuse at referees, and cheering on West Ham United. It is a tribal event and obviously those with a little too much testosterone get a little carried away sometimes, but all in all I believe it to be a pretty healthy activity, we do like our groupings, a place where we can belong emotionally. It is the only part of the machismo culture I do connect to. The joys that can be achieved by success are very real and hard to come by elsewhere. The downs can be as miserable but at least they are safe downs. If you take up the reins of support as a young male I do believe strong ties are formed that never go away, if you didn't then I'm also pretty sure it's incomprehesible, it's all a bit illogical that emotional commitment to something so ethereal.
And thus football is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of the heartless world, it is the heroin of the people....
Pity is the morphine of the masses. They must not be pitied, they must be stirred to rise up and cast off their shackles....
man used to go the match all the time home and away back in the days of terracing . only go odd games now (its a fuckin rip off ) " i was born into football as me uncle used to take me when i was about 3 or something "used to stand me on a wooden crate at the front " anyone remember the boys pen ? . yeah might go to one over the festive period and catch up with a few old faces and an excuse to get slightly bevied "other than that i found out that their is really more to life than being treated like cattle. c mon you blues
Been to a match 4 times in 17 years now. Don't like the seating and the price of tickets. Was fun watching us do the Arsenal on the box though. Everton are producing the goods ok this season so far, an easy 3 on offer on saturday against the charlton for them. Yet to play the Hammers this season, shame you didn't get them early doors, might be trickier come the 3rd Dec.
yeah man great result against the arsenal (wenger wernt too pleased was he ) . think we"ll finish about 10th " think moysies tactically nieve and plays the team a bit negativly " we will miss cahill (great signing) be happy with a point at charlton .
