Hello! There are a lot of people in this world that have the desirer and brains to better their life with education. But the cost of education or circumstances makes it almost impossible. So I suggest we set up an educational trust fund and educate a few deserving people.

It could be as inexpensive as putting somebody through a

Micro Soft course or as expensive as putting some one through University. I have $20 that I would love to contribute as long as my hard earned money wasn’t embezzled or given to someone who will just piss it up. So there will have to be some careful planning first. Cheers!

There are already many excellent NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) that are set up to do just that.

One really cool initiative that I've been hearing about lately is the effort to provide laptops to every child in the world -- they're $100 each, use flash memory (instead of a hard drive), have a crank battery (pull a string or wind some mechanism or something) since most of the children who will receive them do not have ready access to electricity, and are set up to allow wireless networking (I don't know the limits of this, if it's just in the village, or a 100 km range, or worldwide). The idea is to connect children to allow greater learning opportunities.

As for how well your money is spent, there are also resources online that rate the effectiveness of NGOs.

If you prefer to help people here in the US, I'm sure you could quite easily find some scholarship funds that would happily pass your $20 along to a deserving student.

Hello! I was glad to see your reply. I know there are lots good organizations in the world and I know the world could use a few more. I was thinking this tuition Fund could be a Hip Forum Community thing.

    Dear JohnnyStillCan'tRead,
Did you see my survey, posted around, for my graduate course? I would like you input. Look under Compassion Emporium for it. You see, I want to establish an online academy to help teens and unemployed adulted gain necessary skills to succeed in post-secondary education and/or gainful employment. This is a very high poverty region. We're very poor, too, but I still am determined to help others. I'm 56 7 finishing my masters degree this year, and, with excellent grades (in spite of my health disabilities). I would love to hear from you! Thank you!!
    Peace, Kathleen

Hello! One of my customers who is a retired nursing teacher said she would send $10 if this trust fund is established. Which would be a grand total of $30. So I thought I had better try a little harder at getting this thing going.

First off – I don’t want to handle the money just send some ever now and then.

I thought administration could handle the money – post a deposit only # and in a years time we could choose someone to educate.(not me)

I also figured the securest way to send money would be by money order.

My reasoning behind setting up a trust fund is forums are called communities and communities help people. Cheers!

Have you gotten a response from Skip? What did he say?

Personally, I think it is absolutely ridiculous for you to expect "someone" to set up this fund when all you have to offer is $30. That's an awfully piddly amount of cash and a lot of work to try to dump on "someone". You seem to have a very unrealistic view of how these things work. First, scholarship funds generally give awards from the interest earned on their fund. So, if you could offer a few thousand bucks to get things rolling, that might be worth setting up. $30 ain't going too far. Second, how is the awardee going to be chosen, and who is going to sift through all of those applications? How many hours of work are you suggesting right there, when all you have to offer is $30?

I think you really need to do some research on the whole process before deciding that "someone" needs to set up a hipforums fund to handle your $30 instead of donating that money to an already-established organization.

But, as someone else mentioned above, if you're sending cash to students, feel free to add me too... I normally apply for funding in the thousands, or at least hundreds, of dollars range (have you looked at tuition rates lately?), but I won't turn down $30...

How about opening a PayPal account for donations? They and even Ebay have programs for helping charities. I am currently exploring all such options! Suggestions appreciated!

I am hoping other people on this forum contribute and the fund grows to way more then $30. But if it doesn’t I meant no harm and I am just trying to make education financially simpler for someone. I know this whole thing seems crazy or looks like it could be a scam but I though it might be worth a try. Skip has not gotten back to me and I kind of wish he would so I could at least know if there would be a chance of administration taking care of the funds.

Hello! Pay Pal takes a percent and I don’t really trust them. I am hoping ever penny of the funds goes to education. Cheers!
