Are you into Mississippi John Hurt or Dave Von Ronk? It's amazing how you can coax all those notes and chords out of an acoustic guitar, slide is a must to learn and open tuning as well.
I was trying to play MJH coffee blues and its in a dropped D and capo at the 7th."avalon" can be found on YouTube guitar instruction stuff.Buffy St.Marie did some folk blues back when. The Dylan style of guitar and harmonica -in -a -holder is your common vision of a blues folkie.John Hammond Jr. is my favourite.

Hey Rick, nice to see you here as well :). Oh man, do I love some folk blues. I actually like John Hammond very much. I've only heard a few songs of John Hammond jr. incl. Crawling king snake. It was ok, but it didn't impress me like the other John Hammond can do.
    Do you know Davey Graham?

Davey Graham I will find out about his music very shortly. Thanks for the info. music is a trifle hard to connect with here where i am, but not impossible.Erik Von Schmitt is another geezer i listened to once upon a time. I wonder sometimes how Stevie Ray would have done doing folk blues Ha Ha.

Finally, a thread I can get into. I started out with Dylan when he was new. Like von Schmidt and am also into Hurt & von Ronk. Can anyone refer me to a web site that will
explain open tuning? I saw Richie Havens in concert and always wondered what he was doing with his thumb until I read about him on-line and open D tuning (whatever that means). How are chords formed in open tuning? I've always used the traditional EADGBE tuning. Thanks

I'm a big big fan of Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - she is very diverse in her musical styles but definitely hits some folk blues genres every now and then. my favorite songs are: apologies, stop the bus and nothing but the water.

If any of you are guitarists and are experimenting with Folkblues there is some interesting lessons and demos on YouTube especially on DADGAD most of your Folk artists use this tuning for alot of their songs. It's great with bottleneckin'
