I've got quite a few flatties. (Writing that made me chuckle). Anyone else sport some flat dreadlocks?

I'm not sure how I feel about them, but I've tried manipulating them and I cant' see them changing. I think I have about 8 nd they are only t in the underneath back part.

most of my big ones are flat, the new growth is a bit rounder. I can't seem them rounding out tbh, but ask me again in another year.

I had a huge one right smack on the back of my head that was flat... then the flat sides met and it got round, for a while I could feel the seam where it was connecting but now I barely can. It's still flat at tip though. It's a really awesome process to watch/feel.

most of mine are flat at the roots and then sort of shape up in the middle and wispy at the end.

I like the way that the flat roots feel, but i don't really have any dreads that are flat the whole length.

I have a few flat ones but only flat at the ends where the tips have naturally blunted. Nothing changes it but one in particular is super flat

My big fat congo at the back of my neck is as flat as a tack
I sleep on my back so the ones at the back of my head are a bit flat

I, too, have a couple of flatties. Mine do round out toward the last 1/3, but hey, flatties are fine. Someone mentioned bead(s) to round out a flat dread if you really don't care for flat. A bead sounds like a smart idea.

this happened to a couple of mine too.
i have a few really flat ones underneath at the back of my head and i like them. theyre very tight and dont seem capable of rounding themselves out but i could be wrong.
i would just accept yours and learn to love them daisy :)

Ya, I have accepted them. (Hell, they won't have it any different! lol) I was just wondering if anyone else happily sported them because it seems a lot of people like the roundy dreads.

I guess I'm just nervous of growing one big *blech* beaver tail. lol I'm still in shock after someone started that thread. :D

I thought I would be super anal about flat dreads, but I have become so much more laid back about my hair since I got dreads. Cat hair in it? meh, whatevs. Flat spots? Shows I sleep on em, meh, whatevs. I dont palmroll, or try to shape them, or crochet or whatever or anything. I let them take their own path, whatever shape or direction that may be.

I also had a friend who literally had a "helmet" of dread. He wore hats all the time, and just kept his long hair in a pony tail, and eventually it just became one big matted shield of hair. So, fucking gross. The grossest part to me, is that you cant like move the dreads apart, to access your scalp, and clean it, and wash away the shed skin cells, so its all just like.. matted up into your hair. fucking nasty.
