My gf and I heard of an injection that is like the pill or whatever but you only need it every five years, it seems more responsibvle than calling it quits w/ tube tieing and easyer than patch/pill/condoms etc has anyone heard of this or tried it? Thank you in advance for any input.
i don't recall there being an injection to that effect, I have heard of an implant though (usually in the arm, releases hormones over time). I'd be wary of it though, especially if your gal is as young as you - they didn't know a lot about it at the time in terms of long term effects, such as when the medication is done with. it was called norplant or somethign like that, but they were considering taking it off the market when I was back in sex ed in high school, like 6 years ago so it may no longer be available. I'd suggest the patch or the pill before anything crazy like an implant or the shot. The effects are much more well known, it's easier to get ahold of, and the sideaffects are relatively mild
In all honesty, I wouldn't trust something that is going to make you infertile for 5 YEARS! It has to be hellish on your system. Plus, it has to be new, so there wouldn't have been any long-term effects studys done.... like, if you get this shot, do you get uterine cancer in 20 years? They wouldn't know that kind of stuff yet. My friend went on the Depo shot for 2 years. It took over a year for her periods to return after she quit taking it. And that is a shot you take every 3 months. Imagine what a 5 year shot could do! I wouldn't go near a shot like that with a 10 foot pole...
It's called the RISUG, and is (as current tests show) extremely safe. Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RISUG
Thalidomide was once thought safe too. Totally safe if you wanted to have babies with no arms! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalidomide
its not RISUG. i forgot exactly wat she called it. YOur right though about the defects, the not being able to have birth for years, etc. Also dosnt the patch/pill even cause breast pain and stuff?
your girl is worried about the pill/patch because of breast pain? I've never heard of anyone suffering from breast pains due to the pill/patch unless it was because their breasts were growing. And from what I've heard, pregnancy causes a lot more breast pain than any pill does
the arm thing is called implanon, my freind has one & says its really great but i think your right, they dont know the longterm effects
