I just had a 60 minute love making session with a spin bike. I rode her HARD, so hard that my sports bra was completely saturated with sweat by the end of the class.

Ironically, even though I know I looked like shit leaving the gym, I felt incredibly sexy.

I always tell myself that if I leave the gym looking cute, then I didn't work out hard enough.

Hard to look cute when your face is literally the same color as a tomato.....

this tomato face claim obviously requires pictorial evidence.

I do HIIT workouts Monday - Friday, as well as adhere to the ketogenic diet. I do 8 weeks of keto eating, followed by one week of "normal" food, and then 8 weeks of keto. I use my "normal week" to eat chocolate and never work out during that week. So, unless it's my one week off every two months, you can count on me doing a HIIT workout everyday. Today included, so I've earned my bump. :)

I estimate I consume around 4000 calories a day but 2.5 hours of biking or 2-3 hours on the basketball court is enough to keep me thin and trim

Don't you find that you lose your adaptation by taking a whole week off?

My post work-out selfie. I did weights today, which is why my face isn't red. I have a spin class schedule tomorrow, and I'll be sure to take a picture of myself in full tomato face mode.

    Consider yourself warned.

It's not something I'm overly concerned with. The week off is a mental health week for me. I need a week to just not worry and eat things like chocolate and pizza. I only need to lose 14 more pounds before I've hit my target weight and can focus more on maintenance dieting. The whole point of a diet/exercise program (for me) is to get to a weight where I feel happy, healthy, and comfortable eating like a "normal" person (i.e. not counting every calorie or macro). Indulgent foods are a part of the real world and a part of my success plan. So if I lose a bit of progress because I need/want one week every 2 months to eat ice cream, it's a small price to pay for making the program realistically doable in my life. Besides, the keto diet is so freakin' effective I know I'll be right on track again within a few days of resuming it. My best friend lost over 60 pounds doing a ketogenic diet with built-in "normal" weeks. I'm not concerned.

Tonight was my last workout before my first endurance-type race of the year on Saturday. I've been training hard and I'm super stoked. I don't want to brag but I've trained so hard over the winter that I feel like anything less than absolutely decimating this course will be disappointing. I expect to finish this race and still feel like I could run the course again right away. That's the kind of conditioning I've been working on. I've put on maybe 13-15 lbs of muscle in the last six months (but I feel like I still basically look like my workout pic on my profile...maybe a little bigger) but I'm faster now than when I was lighter. I think my conditioning is actually better right now than when I was a boxer growing up and in college. I'm 41 and I plan on winning my heat on Saturday. Then I run again on Sunday.

A couple of little conversation snippets in the last week that I thought were kind of funny......

We were doing laps during boot camp on Monday and our trainer wanted us to run 2 fast laps and then run 2 slow laps for 12 minutes. My group told me to start running and they would just follow behind me for as long as they could. I said I was just going to jog the whole thing and not speed up or slow down. One person said "Yeah...well...your jog is everyone else's fast pace so I think you're still doing it the right way!"

Then tonight.....someone I work out with (who is in pretty good shape) is running on Saturday too but starting in the heat 20 minutes before mine. I told her I'd get to the gate early and see her before she started. She said she'd see me on the course. Someone else pointed out that she is starting 20 minutes before me. She said "I'll only have a 20 minute head start. He'll pass me at some point." It would be awesome if she could stay far enough ahead that I could catch her and finish the race with her but I really don't think that will happen and I just can't see myself slowing down for anyone on this particular race. It would be cool though.

I went back to the gym last night and did upper body, then tonight I did my legs. Ideally I should be taking more time off to recover from the mono, but I am not having spleen pain that would suggest it's enlarged. My major lifts are down by about 20 lbs, though I hope to be back to where I was within a week or so. I am rather sore after taking these last two weeks off, but it's to be expected the first couple nights back.

How many days a week are you running/doing bootcamp?

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago just before bootcamp. My trainer's girlfriend (who has a tight, banging body) said to me "You're so lucky you can wear a sports bra to the gym. You've got a perfectly flat stomach."

I wanted to tell her that she has a perfectly toned ass, but I don't know her very well so I didn't know if it was an appropriate thing to say or not.

I love the confidence I get from working hard at the gym. I've always been a pretty confident person I general, but I definitely exude it on a whole other level when I'm feeling proud of my body as a result of hard work.
