I'm taking Italian in a local community college. While I've done quite a bit of travelling both on the continent and in the USA, I've never been to Italy. What would you recommend as a first timer's trip? It's an extremely overwhelming country because there is truly SO MUCH to see!

Oh well I would always reccomend Turin because I lived there for three years and fell totally and utterly in love with it. The People, the roads, the shops, the architecture, the scent .. need I go on.

However, Turin is a very industrial city and is known for it's dark stuffy skies.

If you're after a more scenic, quiet "country" location try Puglia.
