    Hey all,

I've never tried any Psychedelics before and am planning to try San Pedro with some mates within the next few weeks.

From everything i've read and been told, it tastes really bad. But i'm still planning on blennding the green flesh and drinking, hopefully i'll be able to hold it.

Firstly will this induce vomitting? (not due to a weak stomach but chemically)

Also I'm a largish guy (80kg / 176lbs), and i know potency varies but how much will provide a visually decent trip? (24in?)

I only ask because most of the recepies invole boiling the cactus down.

Our plans are to go out camping and take it during the day. Is it better / more insightful to take it during the day or night?

sorry about all of the questions but any help would be greatly apreciated.

You are probably going to have a pretty hard time eating all that cactus without boiling it down. You don't get used to the taste...it just keeps getting worse and worse.

I would say 16-20 inches of a healthy, plump cactus would be a good dose. Potency can vary, but that should be okay.

Some people like tripping during the day, some during the night. I knew even before I ever tripped that I would be a day tripper. I just like the daytime!

I would recommend daytime for your first trip, really. That way everything is nice and sunny/positive, and you can see what is going on around you with no problems. But if night feels better to you than go with that.

Boiling it down really isn't very hard.

Get all you need for you and your friends, and chop it up really good. A blender would be best, but you are camping so just chop as small as you can.

Put all the cactus in a pot with an equal amount of water. Boil for about 3-4 hours, stirring the whole time, and adding water as needed to keep it from drying up and burning.

At 3-4 hours, and your water is down to about 4 cups (make sure you don't burn it!), put it all inside a tshirt and hang that above a pot. Let all the liquid drain through the shirt into the pot. When it is cool enough, squeeze the shirt and cactus to make sure all the water is drained out.

Once all the water is squeezed out, you can throw away the cactus inside the shirt. You can put the pot of juice onto the fire a little longer to boil the liquid down to a drinkable amount for you and your friends. 6oz (a little less than a cup) is a good amount for one person.

Be safe and have an awesome first trip man! Mescaline is beautiful. =0)

    ok, will do.....thanks....one last question.

Drinking alcohol in conjunction with mescaline? Good or bad idea?

I wouldn't recommend it for three reasons:

    1. When I am tripping on something, and especially if it is my first time tripping on that thing, I like to have a pure experience. I want to be able to feel all the effects of one drug, without the added combo of another.

    2. Alcohol can possibly influence the trip in negative ways. May make it more cloudy, less easy to control, and just not as lucid.

    3. If you drink a lot, it could be bad for the trip. You don't want to be on mescaline and be all uninhibited on top of that. This could get you into a bad situation.

The first two are really just my personal preference. There would be nothing wrong with knocking back a beer or two before/while you trip, I wouldn't recommend much more than that though.

By the way, I don't know if you'll have a sober person there (trip sitter), but it wouldn't be a bad idea. Don't want anyone wandering off into the woods/whatever and getting lost.

One additional suggestion. If you insist on drinking this stuff: make sure you boil down only the dark green tissue layer; you must peel the opaque, whitish, outer skin off first. This contains an emetic; chemically, it will make you vomit. This outer outer skin is like scotch tape laid on top of the dark green wet tissue; with no experience at peeling this layer off it will be very slow and tedious. Suggestion: wear thin surgical gloves (alkaloids do a number on your nailbeds) and though you can peel it, try running a thin sharp knife between the green layer and this outer skin, once you get the hang of it, it works quite well. You can see the knife beneath the skin as you work; if the knife turns green youre going too deep, if it breaks out of the skin into the air, obviously you went too shallow. Eliminate the outer opaque skin, eliminate the woody core, and as much of the intermediate whitish tissue between the core and the outer scotch tape skin as possible and very little nausea is chemically induced. Heat also degrades mescaline; if you insist on boiling, dont do it too long unless like the indians you are knowledgeable enough to add the correct proportions of caapi vine and other ingredients to actuate the remaining mescaline. IPA is better, or running the green skins through a freeze thaw cycle a few times and then running through a juicer and drinking the fresh juice is probably better than boiling too long.

Also, if this is your first time with psychedelics you should take it slow. Even reconsider. Please do extensive research on this class of drug first, be sure you understand the concept of set and setting, and how mood and expectations greatly influence whether you have a good trip or a bad one. Keep in mind that psychedelics are known for their potential to actuate latent psychological problems. Be knowledgeable and take care...

Day tripping is a lot more insightful than tripping during the night, IMHO. You seem to be able to do and see a lot more.

And I would speculate that booze would upset an already unstable cactus-filled stomach.

And I've never needed a trip sitter on mescaline, it seems like it's the most controllable trip that I've experienced. And a bad trip is nearly impossible to have, something like 1 in 50,000. This is because mescaline is closely linked to ecstasy and just makes you and your body feel good. A trip sitter couldn't hurt, but I wouldn't worry about it if it's troublesome, especially if any of your friends have tripped before.
