First Timer Needs advice..

First of all forget the plate, put the seeds and paper towels in a plastic baggie that will retain the moisture. Ditch the maracle grow soil and nutes, it's not good for growin herb. You'll be able to find a garden center near you if you cruise around on google, a hydro supply store would be even better. That light will be good for sprouting, and even vegging for a bit, but you're not gonna get anything special with a light that doesn't put out all that many lumens.

How hot is your attic? It's not good to go above 85 degrees.

Honestly, you could grow a plant with the setup, it might finish, but the buds are gonna be airy, your gonna get barely any, and odds are they won't be too potent. I figure that if I'm gonna risk getting caught doing this shit, better do it all out. Do some reading and grab a few books, just to see what your getting into, and invest maybe $500. Do that, and after a grow or two you could be pulling a QP every few monthes of bud that is better than most of the stuff they sell in amsterdam.

my attic i dont exactly know the temperature but i start to sweat being in there for a minute .. like its probably double my room temperature.. but if i had a fan going wouldn't it cool the plants down and vent them .. and its a werid attic because its a door in my room .. its kind of an attic that goes around the whole house because its the triangle part that hands down to let rain fall off your roof if you kinda understand what i mean

i put the seeds in the bag with a damp papertowl around them like you said.. 500 dollars is way outta my price range since im a poor student and saving for college.. uhm .. i went to my local wal-mart and found these 3 bulbs that put out 1750 lumen each so i figure maybe if i buy a cheap fixture and wired it to a plug and have the 3 bulbs putting out 1750 lumen's each that it would be better?

 

The temp situation is kinda iffy, if it's not a comfortable place for you then it's gonna be the same for your plants. As far as the bulbs, not sure if they are right. Not all bulbs are good for horticulture. Metal Halides (MH) and High Pressure Sodium are most commonly used, and are the best. You can also use floros or compact floros (CFLs), but you will need a few more just to up the lumens. If you're in a pinch then you can buy a security hps light from home depot or lowes. They will always have the 70 watt ones in stock, atleast when I've been there, but you want atleast a 150 wt one. You can find FAQs online that are from overgrow on how to wire one of those to a grow light. I've never done it myself, but do a good job and I'm sure it'll work fine.

With an attic like that I think you'd do best building or buying a small cabinet, it'd stop you from wasting lumens, and with 3-4 computer fans you could setup a nice lil passive intake.

i have it all set up now .. i have a new light it's 34 watts and its in my attic .. 2 sprouted so i decided to try them out .. anyawys im kinda worried about it all .. think it will ever catch fire? like i have instalation everywhere its like snow on the ground but its instalation .. i have a piece of ply wood under my plants .. and a piece under where the extension cord is plugged into the light and the fan .. should i be worried at all?

 

it's not a good idea to have insullation flying around.........cleanliness is like the #1 thing when growing.........not too sure how flammable insullation is but i know its itchy as hell and i wouldn't even be up there myself let alone growin up there.......id look for a new spot buddy.
