I'm from NE Tennnessee. If I were gonna go shroom hunting when and where would be the best time to find them. And what's the best way to find out if they're really shrooms? I've been told to poke them and see if they turn blue. Is this fool proof? Edit: I'm not sure if there are still cows in the field near me. There used to be plenty of them though, but that was years ago. They may or may not still be there. Also do they grwo this time of year? Because it was raining earlier, and I'd like to go out searching tonight if someone could give me some good info.
I wouldn't go unless I had someone to go with who knew their shit. After a few days of good rain is a good time to go out, I believe the mush season is almost spent, its getting pretty damn cold, at least up here near where I am it is. You can't trust just the blueing affect. Make yourself a spore print and if the print is dark purple - black, and it bruises blue, and you get someone to ID it for you on a site called the shroomery, you are probably safe, but than again there are some deadly look alikes.
So black prints contain psilocybin? I found a dark brown mushroom with black blcack spore prints, and a couple flat ones with slightly raised edges, creamy brown color also with greyish black spore print. Those sound right to you? I've looked up a few poison mushrooms and I've only seen maybe 1 or two that will flat out kill you. The others according to my info will just make you sick as hell. I'm willing to give it a try if I can be fairly certain that it's a magic shroom. It rained yeterday and was fairly warm today I have 1 open cow field by a pond, right on the edge of a forest, and another cow field right in the middle of a forest. Do you think I'd have any luck finding some P Cubensis tonight?
Here's something that might help you indentify shrooms more detailed: http://shroomery.org/index/par/23917 and here's a good picture of a psilocbye cubensis: http://shroomery.org/images/23488/83294-24507-cube3.jpg
