I'm rather picky as well, just don't let your standards go down because you want someone to be there. Its much harder to bring standards up than to lower them.
Learn to make happiness for yourself. Make it a gift you give to yourself. Have a party for one if you must. If you project happiness you will attract others. Things will change, you can count on it, but you have to make yourself happy. Then you don't have to rely on someone else to make you happy. That is expecting too much. You'll find someone to be with and it will be when you are projecting that inner happiness and letting yourself shine.
