I am a self-professed film nerd. I watch at least a movie a day, if not two, and as a result, not many of my thoughts have not originated from movies. Everything I talk about I relate to movies, and I find most people boring because they haven't seen half of the movies I have seen. Perhaps I am exaggerating a little. This summer (or winter depending where you live) has been an excellent season for films. Instead of reviewing each one, I'm just going to tell you all of the new films I have seen which I really liked: Che Frost/Nixon The Wrestler Vicky Christie Barcelona Slumdog Millionare Her Whole Life Ahead Home Milk I especially liked Milk, it made me cry. What are some of the films you saw recently and enjoyed?
I love movies. I'm not one for going out to the movies that often but when I can I really enjoy it. I actually set a goal to watch every one of IMDb's top 250. I'm up to about 219. Just about an hour ago I watched a Canadian film called Fetching Cody. It was pretty good. Jay Baruchel was in it as a drug addict who finds a time traveling chair and uses it to go back in time to help his girlfriend who just OD'ed. Not bad, though I got stoned 3/4 of the way in and didn't swallow all of the end. I gotta go back and watch the last 5 minutes tonight
Yeah, I'm making my way through IMDB top 250 too. I've seen about all of them anyway, but it made me go off on a Felini film festival a few weeks ago.
Oh yeah, good movies I've seen lately. I saw Coraline a few days ago, which might be the best animated movie, save Grave Of The Fireflies, that I've ever seen. Watching it was a really fulfilling experience. Slumdog was one of the top ten best movies I've ever seen.
I really like grave of the fireflies, have you seen Laputa: Castle in the Sky?. I have to see this "Coraline", its yet to be released here. I am curious about what W. is going to be like.
dammit, I gotta see Milk and Slumdog Millionaire tomorrow, I'm goin to the movies during the day. buying one ticket and just sneaking into the second movie after I'm done watching the first. am I the only cheap creep who does this?
I watched the movie Cecile B Demented last night. It's a John Waters film. It stars Melanie Griffith, Stephen Dorff, Ricki Lake, and the guy who plays "D" from The Wire. Demented forever! It was so fucked up, but quite funny. This morning I watched Death Race 2000 which is a 1969 film where people race across America and get points for killing pedestrians in their cars. It's awesome. Sylvester Stalone loses in a fight against the Kung Fu guy:
I watched W. for the second time this week. You'll like it fair enough. I mean, if you liked Frost/Nixon then you'll like W. It's frustrating, but Dreyfuss is an excellent Chaney.
I call it "movie madness." You bring your own snacks in, buy one ticket, and watch three. Cheap nothing. I'm a director and a cinema buff. And I'm not paying $7.00 to see Paul Blart Mall Cop.
I have watched that a number of times and have never failed to laugh. I like how serious the actors come across. There is no slapstick overacting for the sake of humour.
I saw the Australian national premiere of Che...there were politicians there. It was quite brilliant, and I think it tried to expose both his strengths and flaws..any of you seen it or planning to see it?
Natural Born Killers is the root of my hostility toward Oliver Stone. He ruined Tarintino's best script by being a loathsome hack. All personal flavor though.
The last movie I saw was the International with Clive Owen. There were some nice shoot out scenes, but pretty average.
Vicky Christie Barcelona was extremely boring movie for me, the only thing i liked in it was Scarlet . well i usually watch more animations than movies and the last one i watched and really enjoyed was Wicked city
Speaking of anime, I'm half way through read or die, pretty cool. On topic though, Milk was a great movie, but yeah, very sad, I can't imagine the impact it would've had for a gay guy. I want to see the wrestler, the guy who directed it is doing the new robocop movie.
