I work a job. I don't make much. I live cheap. I accept it. I know it. We aren't struggling. We live comfortably cheap. Ive learned to love it. Or so I thought.

Basically. Everyday lately 5 hours after lunch and 1 before dinner, I get very cranky. Not with others. With most of them, I am fine. I get upset at myself. Depressed. Angry that I don't have everything I want. I think about playing the lottery..(if you know me personally, that's just not me) I think about selling things to beef up my savings to a more 'respectable' number. I think about all kinds of irrational stuff that just does not match who I am.

I'm thinking its the lack of food plus the exertion of my job. I walk at least 9 miles a day in total, and am lifting things for most of that. I drink plenty of water, but that doesn't seem to be enough. I know this because they have these 'squinchers'. It's basically Gatorade concentrate that you add water to for an 8 oz serving of flavored water. As soon as I drink it, the anger goes away, my thoughts come back to earth, and I'm able to laugh again. It feels afterwords, that my body got something it really needed. Which brings me to these thoughts of it involving food/drink.

Maybe it's diabetes or something. I also have a very high metabolism, maybe my body just isn't getting enough. But what of the mental stuff? Can a lack of electrolytes effect thoughts too? If so, that may explain it. I don't know. Opinions? Don't be gentle now, if I need to hear it, I need to hear it.

I think all kinds of nutrition and consumption lack issues can affect thoughts, but frankly your thoughts don't seem negative, it sounds like that kind of stress that's considered to be good stress, the kind that makes you want something and then go for it.

Maybe you've just been too comfortably cheap for too long. All things lose their allure after awhile don't they? I know I used to be really comfortable with a very different, way more simple, completely money deficient lifestyle and I am no longer comfortable with that.

I decided I wanted something else so I started doing something else, living differently. How old are you? Quarter life crisis or mid-life crisis maybe?

    I am 22.

Interesting thought. I'm considering all opinions.

I'm not going to say I think you're right. I won't say your wrong either. That said, it isn't just displeasing thoughts of my financial situation. That was just today. Few days ago I was in the same situation aside from the fact that I was going through all the scenarios in which I could lose my significant other and wanted to cry. Same thing in that I drank the sugar water, the sadness and mental fatigue goes away.

Do remember that the most efficient source of energy for the body is fructose, followed by glucose (which is also what complex carbs (starch)) are broken down into.

White table sugar is actually fantastic as it's 50/50 glucose/fructose.

Are you sure this sugar didn't have any artificial ingredients in it? That could be causing issues.

    and I'm with Hoppi'.

Ive hoarded a case of it because of this suspicion. Yes it has mode than just sugar. Its basically Gatorade. They put it there as a saline solution to prevent heat stroke. It tastes like a melted ice pop.

You should probably go to the doctor and get some bloodwork done, just in case.

    Protein

Protein is found in meat, fish, milk and cheese. Protein provides the building blocks for most of the body's tissues, nerves, internal organs (including brain and heart). Proteins are used to make neurotransmitters and are essential to improve mental performance.

    Carbohydrate

Grains, fruits and vegetables are key sources of carbohydrates. Digestion causes the breakdown of carbohydrates into glucose (sugar) which is the brains primary source of energy. If your glucose levels fluctuate too much, you may experience mental confusion, dizziness and if severe, convulsions and loss of consciousness.

    Fat

The brain is more than 60% fat. This is because the brain cells are covered by the myelin sheath which is composed of approximately 75% fat. Fats also play a crucial role as messengers. They regulate key aspects of the immune system, blood circulation, inflammation, memory and mood.

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential to the optimum performance of your brain. Lack of omega-3 fats in your diet can lead to depression, poor memory, low IQ, learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADD and many more mental disorders.

To ensure that your diet is rich in omega-3 fats, ensure that you eat plenty of oily fish like salmon, sardines, trout, tuna, herring, mackerel and anchovies.

YEAH !!... It's your blood sugar level. Has no one else heard of this !!!

5 hours after lunch and doing manual work for fuck's sake. Your body can't run on empty. Your brain is part of your body so it works best when fed, not 'fed-up'.

What's wrong with buying a lottery ticket ?
    I do.

I mean... gradually taking in any sugary drink should help. Also, do try to avoid high fructose corn syrup and all that just in case. Best to just have plain old sugar! The real stuff! And the best!

Do you have any digestive probs?

Nope. None. I haven't been sick with a fever over 100 in over three years either. I eat very healthy, I mean I indulge myself a couple times a month in a burger or something. I don't get cramps.

Maybe from now on ill just pack an oatmeal raisin cookie for my last break. If sugar is the issue, ill have solved it.
