Okay, it all started a few weeks back when I was hanging out with a few people a bit younger than me. It was a group of girls who are all 16 or older, and i'm 19. Now one of these chicks and I became very friendly with each other, and we're now going out. Does anyone see this age gap as strange? One of my friends seems to think its a little weird, and so did I for a bit before i actually started dating her. Sometimes she almost seems a little too immature, and other times, especially when we're alone, she changes entirely into this person as mature as i am. I think the immaturity comes from her other friends when they're around.

Anyway, Turns out my girlfriend used to be my sisters best friend! Now, i want to be able to bring her back to my place, but i dont want my sister to find out that i'm dating her old friend. So basically we dont have anywere private to go :( We dont want to go back to her house because she has two little sisters and that just wouldn't go down well...

So basically all i want to know is:

is an age gap of 19 to 16 too much?

and is there any suggestions on what i could do to have some alone time with her?

I don't think it's too much, it's only 3 years difference. My husband is 4 years older than I am, and we met/started dating when I had just turned 17 years old, and he was 21.

Her parents, on the other hand, might have a problem with it. [IMG]

If you have to hide the relationship is it really worth it? Are you afraid of being embarrassed if your sister knew you were dating her ex friend? Three years is not a lot latter in life but can be quite a bit in the teenaged years. I would think it was odd myself. You should be further on your life path then a 16 year old.

That would be a sign to me that you should not be dating this girl.

When I was a teenager, my dad let me in on how he knew whether to be comfortable with me dating a guy or to watch us like a hawk -- whether the guy acted shady about meeting my dad.

And especially if he was concerned about getting me alone BEFORE meeting my dad.

My impression is that you're interested in this girl for something other than her mind (otherwise why not go hang out at the library, if all you're interested in is spending time with her away from her friends?)... In which case, I suggest finding someone who is not jailbait.

It's not to real bad, but then again if my brother or a friend at age 19 brought home a 16 year old I'd probubly be the one to slap him. I know I sure as hell wouldn't be messing with a tender 16 year old.

Thats nothing god. I knew a girl who was 14 and dating an 18 year old, thats 4 years but its still nothing.
Just think like, if you were 26, she would be 23. To me it doesnt look like a huge age gap anyway.

It probably doesn't seem like much to you because you don't have a lot of years on ya yet. Wait till your 19, you will look back and think damn was I stupid. Maturity levels latter in life don't vary as much as they do in the teenage years. I sorry but a 18 year old dating a 14 year old to me is just sick on the 18 year olds side. At 14, I assume they don't know what lifes about yet.

I wouldnt call it "sick", although usually the relationship like that is all about sex. Rarely do they love eachother.

An older mature man taking advantage of a younger girl for sex becuase usually they are more prone to fall for a bunch of bullshit is sick and manipulative.

there is exactly 1 year and 11 months between me and my wife, to the day. but I've known other couples who had larger age differences, some greater than 5 years, and they seem ok.

3 years is nothing. when i was 16, i was with someone of 19, and it was the best relationship ive ever had. Girls mature faster than boys (apparently) and if thats true, your maturity levels would properly be roughly the same. Just have fun!

    19-16 isn't a big deal at all.

Depending on the person I don't think of 16 to 19 as a problem. (This is coming from the parent of 15, 16 and 19 year olds). Keep in ming that the age of consent for sex varies from 14 to 18 depending on which state you are in. So make sure you are legal before you have sex or you could find yourself a registered sex offender if the 16 y/o girl's parents wanted to make a big deal out of it.

Sounds to me, as if you'd rather just "get her alone" than sit around and talk and get to know eachother.

I don't think you should be in that kind of relationship and she shouldn't either.

    i agree totaly
but i was in a relationship with someone younger wheni was 19 and she was probably alot more mature then i was at the time
but i was freinds with her parents 1st before we got together aand we really loved eachother
and had just a really good relationship for severl years but everything was totaly open with her family..and we were never tryin to find somewhere to hide..nd waited till she was older to take it to a sexuallevel
i think if your afraid of what people will say and you cant be totaly upfront and open about it then your motives must be questioned

the age gap itself isn't so much a problem as the dynamics of this "relationship" that you seem to want to keep secret from the rest of the world. If it were my daughter, I'd be waiting on the front porch for you with a loaded shotgun.

the difference between 14 and 18, like in EasyE's example, is the difference between puberty and adolescence, and those things are worlds apart.

16 is the legal age of consent in most countries, and with only a three year age gap I don't see it as a big deal. If you were any older, or if she were younger, I would see it as a big problem.
