http://switch3.castup.net/cunet/gm.asp?ai=214&ar=1090wmv&ak=null I may post this in the islam section of the site as well, its a part of a show from kuwait tv, where you have a islamic expert from the very top islamic University on earth, from Al-Azahar University this guy is a religious sheik . and he is telling people that female circ is part of islam and that its a good thing to do and that people shouldnt listen to the west . part of the interview Interviewer: So what about the girl’s opinion? Dr. Muhammad Wahdan: What do you mean? Interviewer: What if she says: I don’t want to be circumcised. What happens then? Dr. Muhammad Wahdan: If a girl says she doesn’t want it, she’s free. No problem. Interviewer: Is this what happens in reality? Dr. Muhammad Wahdan: I have no relation to reality. I am talking about how things should be. Interviewer: You are a religious sheik, from Al-Azahar University. You cannot say you have no relation to reality. Dr. Muhammad Wahdan: Reality is a mistake, we must rectify it. [...] In Egypt we have four and a half million spinsters. The definition of a spinster is a woman who has reached 30, without ever receiving a marriage proposal. We have a spinster problem in the Arab world, and the last thing we want is for them to be sexually aroused. Circumcision of the girls who need it makes them chaste, dignified, and pure. 78-97 percent of women in Egypt have had FGM so people seem to be listening
yup apparently female circ is a good thing for women who wear jeans and travel on tightly packed trains .....they get aroused and thats such a bad thing ......this guy tells them to get female circumcised .......oh to have been at that interview with a handy baseball bat or pair of scissors
When they say 'circumcision', what they really mean is that the girl's clitoris is cut off. What a bunch of barbarians.
Well, what I mean is that it is a misnomer. In male circumcision, part of the foreskin is removed-they don't cut the guy's ding-dong off. This is actually the removal of the entire clitoris with the intent of preventing the girl (they usually do it to prebuscent girls) from having sexual feelings-they really should call it something different.
True but circumcision was started in the U.S in the late 1800s victorian quackery days as a cure for masturbation do they share a few things in cammon.
a couple of pictures and some drawings of female circ quite disturbing so be warned if of a delicate nature... not for children http://www.middle-east-info.org/league/somalia/fmgpictures.htm on the same site they have a descriptions of what happens and some photos of little girls being circumcised http://www.middle-east-info.org/gateway/genocide/index.htm "The child, completely naked, is made to sit on a low stool. Several women take hold of her and open her legs wide. After separating her outer and inner lips, the operator, usually a woman experienced in this procedure, sits down facing the child. With her kitchen knife the operator first pierces and slices open the hood of the clitoris. Then she begins to cut it out. While another woman wipes off the blood with a rag, the operator digs with her sharp fingernail a hole the length of the clitoris to detach and pull out the organ. The little girl, held down by the women helpers, screams in extreme pain; but no one pays the slightest attention. The operator finishes this job by entirely pulling out the clitoris, cutting it to the bone with her knife. Her helpers again wipe off the spurting blood with a rag. The operator then removes the remaining flesh, digging with her finger to remove any remnant of the clitoris among the flowing blood. The neighbor women are then invited to plunge their fingers into the bloody hole to verify that every piece of the clitoris is removed" the percentage for egypt works out at 29 million women in that country alone have had this done
the worse version they dont even have drawings of they use caustic chemicals or acids god knows what the outcome of that are
You are so misinformed that it is ridiculous , please educate yourself before you go about spreading more misinformation. The vast vast majority of female circ involves a cutting of the labial hood , not even excision of skin - far more mild than the normal US version of male circumcision.
Clitoridectomy the partial or total removal of the external part of the clitoris is quite common in many countries of sub-Saharan Africa, east-Africa, Egypt, Sudan, and the Arabian Peninsula.
the total number of women circumcised is about 190 million 2 million have it done every year according to amnesty the world health organisation say that The most common type of female genital mutilation is excision of the clitoris and the labia minora, accounting for up to 80% of all cases; the most extreme form is infibulation, which constitutes about 15% of all procedures. http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs241/en/index.html
Wow thats so stupid. I looked at the pictures and its just not normal.. I feel bad for the women that do this. When they finally do get married , they dont have the sexual drive or sexual pleasure as they prob used to have.
The stupid part is that they are going against the wishes of God. He/She gave females a sex organ so that they may enjoy sex. Then these religious dickheads come along and think they know better. Scary part is that there are right wing Christians who would probably do the same thing given the chance. My solution: round up all the religious fanatics of all faiths and put them on an island. Then they either learn to get along or end up killing each other.
Please read this - article written by an award winning US female researcher from Washington University: http://www.artsci.washington.edu/newsletter/WinterSpring01/ShellDuncan.htm
read it one women who seems to see some good in female circ, and her opinion that most women who are circumcised are circumcised lightly.... she doesnt back this up with any figures and just seems to have worked with some tribes in kenya weigh that against the world health organisation of the united nations saying that you have 80% excision of the clitoris and the labia minora, and 15% infibulation, in what amnesty says is 190 million women who are circumcised . I think that the un are more likely to be right
It is just plain horrible. My mothers friend is from Egypt and she also had FGM done to her. She is Muslim and lives in the US now, and her daughters will never go through that. Out of all the Muslim females I know she is the only one. Thank God. I feel so sorry for her. This is not just a Muslim thing, it is very big in Africa among traditional tribes. Tribes for example like the Masai...The hardest part about FGM is the men in the communities look down upon woman who are not cut. http://www.irinnews.org/webspecials/FGM/45986.asp
There is a difference between what a stone age people are doing and what a supposed semi modern country is doing. The reasons for doing it are different as well, the African tribes do it more for ceremonial reasons and the muslims are doing to stop women getting sexually aroused. Do you see a difference? Also there is the discrimination factor, do boys get their fun bits cut off? The arguement there is if men don't enjoy sex then there is no need to mutilate women. No matter how you look at it, hardline muslims treat their women as sub human. It's like muslim men are saying we can't control our sexual urges and it is all the fault of women, therefore they pay the price by having their sex drive stolen and then covered up like they don't exist. Having said that, there is a difference between what the Koran says and how it is interpreted, just like the bible. It's a fucked up world and organised religion is doing the screwing. I am not a believer in violence but when it comes to hard line religious freaks I am willing to make an exception. Pass the machine gun.
First up the UN and the WHO are two seperate organisations. Secondly she is not "one woman" - she is (now) Associate Professor and program director in Bio-cultural Anthropology at the University of Washington. Dr. Shell-Duncan's research focuses on maternal and child health in sub-Saharan Africa, and she is particularly interested in nutrition and infectious disease. http://depts.washington.edu/endolab/shell-duncan.shtml Secondly have you read the book "Desert Flower" by Waris Dirie ? Waris Dirie is an ex Somali model who underwent pharonic circumcision (that's an extreme kind) - she is now UN-Special Ambassador and spokesperson on FGM. In the book she outlines her solution to female circumcision - male castration. She also admits in the book to leaving a man for dead in the desert. Hardly the kind of individual one would wish to have focussing on producing figures. Shell Duncan is a Western academic free from bias - interested in health before political bullshit. So yes she carries far more weight than the other.
