Hello all , i am as you can see new here and i was wondering if anyone who knew quite abit about folk instruments point me in the right direction.I am a guitar player but i want to go to something differant with a more folk trad sound, mostly in the celtic sense that would be an easy and similair transition. I have looked at the irish bouzouki, strum stick, walkabout dulcimer, and mandola but i do not haave much knowloedge on these instruments-from watching videos it seems like these instruments are more for lead or backup purposes but i am looking in a sense for a trad folk "replacement" of a guitar.:D

i would suggest a classical guitar if anything. it can sound just like a harp if done right, and alot of celtic music sounds beautiful on it
