The US government will announce today, a state-wide crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries.

U.S. Attorneys have sent out letters to at least 16 dispensaries in California, notifying them that they have 45 days to shutdown or face prosecution and confiscation of their assets. Besides sending nasty letters to the pot clubs, the attorneys also sent letters to landlords threatening to confiscate their property and demanding all rent proceeds ever received from the clubs.

So the Obama administration has decided to go back on its promise not to prosecute anyone so long as they are in compliance with state law regarding medical cannabis.
federal law "takes precedence over state law and applies regardless of the particular uses for which a dispensary is selling and distributing marijuana."

"Under United States law, a dispensary's operations involving sales and distribution of marijuana are illegal and subject to criminal prosecution and civil enforcement actions," letters signed by U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy in San Diego read. "Real and personal property involved in such operations are subject to seizure by and forfeiture to the United States ... regardless of the purported purpose of the dispensary."

They just never give up,do they? Prohibition has never worked and never will. Telling people what their personal behaviour should be is a non starter. Another BIG money machine at our expense.

Guess they realize that shutting down the dispensaries in California will be a HUGE boon to the Mexican drug cartels as about a MILLION sick people take to the streets to find their medicine. The quality will go down and the price will go UP as more dealers take to the streets to push their drugs on children as well as the sick.

That's a REAL good solution to the drug problem in America. Keep prohibition going so the drug cartels can rake in even more Billions in profits!

    Good goin' DEA!

Anyone smelling a Supreme Court Face Off? State Rights. Legality of confiscation of private real estate and cash with out due process. Freedom of individual Choice. Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Pot could have been made legal way back in the 70' but NO. Hippies always insist on being individual long wolfs and Never Join for anything with any others. So here we are. Still not uniting together.

Yes I'm talking to you. You know exactly who you are. Never change. So, Sad.

seems to me the people on wall street are looking for a place to stay this winter out of the colds.. Prisons are very comfortable in the wintertime.. As well Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners are better that 1/2 of you eat during the holidays. And they got cable..

    ???

This seems like a desperate attempt to generate revenue..

I guess they believe this business is not producing enough taxes to a state that desperately needs revenue itself.

Obama is a flip-flopping liar. This still sounds like just a bunch of threats, though, but it's possible that they'll go through with throwing more people in jail. We need Ron Paul in office fast.

i heard they were targeting the dispenseries 1000 feet near schools colleges and parks and also the ones that are selling in plain view and not being discreet, but tooo in the same article it says no dispenserie should feel comfortable operating,,,,,,i just hope they dont shut them all down.

Dispensaries across California are hiring lawyers right now.

Evidently this is an election ploy for one thing. Obama's tough on drugs! That's the message, so the opposition can't use his letting marijuana dispensaries proliferate against him.

They do this before elections, but don't really go all out because they don't have the resources to shutdown thousands of pot shops across California, nor to litigate each one in court. Instead they use FEAR to get some to close, but it doesn't work that well.
